I was driving to working this morning around maybe 7 AM on I-880 in Oakland just off Emeryville when I noticed an LD train going north. I figured it must be #6 heading for Emeryville out of the Oakland yard since the CS doesn't arrive until evening. I started waving (I'm told this is customary) although I suspect there was only crew on board.

I understand it gets in early. About when do they start boarding? I've been at the station when #6 was open to boarding and the staff was outside the train directing passengers where to go. However, I've never actually seen it arrive in Emeryville.

IME either after train 11 departs at 820ish in the morning or 845am give or take if train 11 is running late. If you remember last time when train 11 boarded on track 2, it was because train 6 was released from the yard earlier as train 11 was slightly behind schedule.

I have ridden #6 out of Emeryville at least 20 times. I have never seen it arrive in Emeryville from the Oakland coach yards more than 25 minutes before its scheduled departure time from Emeryville. And in all instances, boarding began immediately upon the consist coming to a complete stop in the station.

So the train you saw might have been (although unlikely) a 9-hour late CS (#14). More likely, it was a Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin train.

Did you notice how many cars in the consist and their types?

Wasn't in Amtrak California colors. Every single car was a standard Amtrak car. The car was definitely moving, so it wasn't a train just sitting on the tracks.

I checked the arrival time of #14, which was about 3-1/2 hours late (12:49 AM)
