Does anyone know where exactly in Santa Barbara County this photo (copyright Amtrak) was taken? This excellent train forum usually knows all the answers to my questions, so I'm pretty sure someone can help me. Thanks!

Nice link. I did not notice( where in Santa Barbara) in the original post. I think I have to stop looking at this forum after midnight.

In the image, you can see the trestle for Gaviota Beach. So I'm gonna say photo was from just west of Gaviota beach.

Okay, so far two suggestions. So which spot is it, Canada Del Agua Caliente or Canada De Alegeria?

(I have booked a trip in November on the Pacific Surfliner from San Diego to San Luis Obispo. I'd like to have my camera ready :) )

Using the Google Maps link in Satellite mode and zooming in we can see the shadow of the trestle at Canada De Alegeria.

We can also see the orchard adjacent to the left of the locomotives.

Another match is the steeply inclined trail cut into the bank (or maybe it's just a natural feature) that leads down to the beach.

Note that you won't get this actual shot from the train itself, it's taken from the air a good bit and elevation above the tracks. While a very scenic route, it's not quite that scenic!
For comparison, here's a similar shot I took from the train in March.

@KmH: Thank you very much - Yes that's it.

@JoeBas: Yes, I know that this is an aerial picture but it would be nice to take a picture from the trestle and knowing that this is actually where Amtrak took one of the most beautiful and spectacular train pictures (in my opinion at least).

Once again this excellent Forum was able to help me. Thanks from a European Amtrak fan.

Wonderful picture, JoeBas! I was on the Coast Starlight in May 2014.
