Welcome to the forum. Some travel videos can gloss over some aspects of traveling by Amtrak, so I suggest starting with shorter trips and building up to longer trips as you get more familiar with what to expect. I think a significant portion of the "never again" group feels that way because they bit off too much too soon before figuring out how to identify and work around potential problems.

Welcome! You have lots of possibilities in Portland, compared to some other North American cities if you include visits to some of the smaller cities. There are videos of them linked in this website.

You may want to join AORTA, too. It advocates for Oregon rail and transit users.
