the location also alternates on the river runner. sometimes right behind the locomotive (quite noisy, with so many grade crossings), sometimes at the back of the train.

it appalls me when any town with amtrak service **and nothing else** won't make that part of their marketing strategy. it's standard issue here in missouri for the smaller towns on the river runner route to recommend amtrak to visitors.

Amtrak signage indicates long-term parking at Union Station is $10/day. I can't recall the last time I paid to park there, however. If you simply cannot get down there without a car (buses from all over the city run near there 7 days a week), I recommend parking at KCY instead of Independence...

i used a north american rail pass a few years ago. spent 6 months planning the trip, so there were no surprises or sold out trains or limitations. i think i traveled around 8,000 rail miles in 26 days (with plenty of overnights in cities along the way). while you may not hear much about it...
