    California Zephyr Lateness

Bus connection? If you booked through Amtrak, they will take care of you. There are plenty of hotels here in SLC. I just don't want us to be hanging out at the little station for an extended length of time, especially at night.

    California Zephyr Lateness

That's what I'm talking about. In the summer, it usually is not that late, in fact it usually arrives early into SLC; around 10:20 to 10:25 pm. I hope the issue resolves itself before next week!

No questions really, just a big thank you

Do a search on google maps and you see will it is right across the street. It's an easy walk, even if you are hauling a large wheeled suitcase. Hubby and I crossed it to the Vagabond with no issues during the day. At night it is fairly well lit. If you are concerned about security, you may want...

    California Zephyr Lateness

Hi all, Does anyone know why the CZ has been running late (3+hours) the last couple of days? I checked amtrak.com, but no info there. It's supposed to be done with the detour, isn't it?

    Two more questions

You can either ask the SCA to set them for you for a nap, or you will find the instructions on the bottom of the table. They are visible when the table is folded up. Have a great trip!

    Cascades Questions

I was wondering if anyone can tell me the difference in rides between a Superliner (upstairs) and the Cascades? We will be taking a couple of short (2 hr ish) rides on them soon. I know they are different trains, but is one more bumpy or smoother than the other? Does the 'tilt' feel weird, or...

    Curtains Open or closed

It's not totally impossible however. The person from the outside would have to be a ways away from the train to see in. I'm not sure if you can actually see much detail looking from outside at an upper floor of the Superliner. I think you can see if they are sitting by the window, but not much...

Cheaper price or more amenities on future new services

Did Amtrak increase the Sleeper Cars after they quit using the Slumbercoaches? Also, if they added a 'lie flat' option in coach, wouldn't they have to totally reconfigure the seats? They would be LOSING seats, and wouldn't they have to charge more for the newer 'lie flat' option? Then wouldn't...

Cheaper price or more amenities on future new services

Thank you for the explanation and answer. I did not know that was considered an observation car. I thought it had a separate name! I know they have one for one of the Alaska Rail line routes, and I know Rovos has them too. On the Alaska line, you can smoke out there. I think you can on the Rovos...

Anything from the Trolley, dears? I hope the train consists here don't get that long. Hopefully they would schedule more trains!

Cheaper price or more amenities on future new services

Jis, I agree with you. They will not provide extra non revenue cars at this time, and they have trouble maintaining the existing fleet. IF, (a big if!) Amtrak could take care of the issues with the existing fleet first, AND make a profit (I know, a dirty word) then maybe they could add some...

What is the best part of taking the train

Yes that is on the list too, but I haven't done it 70mph yet. It was probably close to 10 or 20! (trackwork)

    Curtains Open or closed

Me too! :giggle: The public certainly will not want to see that! We usually leave them open at night. We have only been in bedrooms/roomettes on the second floor of the Superliner, so I don't feel that someone would see anything inside at night unless the lights were on. I like being able to...

Cheaper price or more amenities on future new services

In that case, the first things to do would be to upgrade linens and mattresses in the sleepers. They should also return to real china and glassware, it actually 'more green' than using plastic and paper. The same could be said for the meals-instead of prepackaged foods, return to cooked to...

Cheaper price or more amenities on future new services

Please refresh my memory, did they offer full sleepers and slumbercoaches on the same train? I think regardless of what extra amenities would be offered, the price overall would definitely go up!

Since this is fantasy, what kind of amenities are you thinking? Dome cars on all trains that can use them? More Parlor Cars? More routes? Jacuzzis? I would be happy with mattress/bedding upgrades! Sometimes the food could be better and more choices too!
