    More trouble with AGR Reservations

I thought saxman66 said he/she called Amtrak reservations after calling AGR and that that agent made some comment about how there must not be AGR availability. That is to what I am referring. Amtrak res agents (not AGR agents) know very very little about AGR. Some AGR agents are also not very...

    More trouble with AGR Reservations

If you were talking to an AGR specialist you were talking to one of the contract employees at AGR, not to an Amtrak res agent.

    More trouble with AGR Reservations

Most Amtrak agents know next to nothing about AGR awards. Some even maintain they aren't allowed to touch them, even though there are circumstances where they are allowed to make changes. Amtrak agents make things up about AGR all the time.

Can I obtain refund for unused tickets by mail?

Call 1-800-USA-RAIL and ask to speak to the Refunds department. I think they close at 8PM ET. If they try to credit your card back and it fails, I guess they would cut a check. If it goes through, the credit card company should still provide you with the funds eventually.

Can I obtain refund for unused tickets by mail?

The best way to handle this is to cancel your reservations over the phone. They will give you a cancellation number--write it in the designated space on the back of the ticket before mailing it in. Once they receive the tickets, the refund will be processed. If you paid with a credit card, they...

    Is it time to call?

The Select card isn't useful. The Select Plus card, however, gets you into ClubAcela, Metropolitan Lounges, and Continental President's Clubs. EDIT: Now I realize HokieNav was referring to a regular, non Select card.

anybody have trouble with " buy points" ?

It's run by points.com: https://www.points.com/home/support.jsp That said, you should be able to get AGR to investigate. Escalate to a supervisor if needed.

Second Person Using AGR Points in Roomette?

If it is acceptable to your employer, you could refund the paid reservation and book an award for two people using an AGR award (20K points for a roomette).

A cheaper way to travel? Purchase points?

Not any longer. Transfers from SPG to Continental are now at a transfer rate of 2:1. So 20,000 SPG points would net you 12,500 CO miles with the 20K bonus. Inspiration100, your only viable option is a direct transfer. Just put a 20K transfer request in and hope for the best. You will actually...

    Ticketing/ID

It'll print any ticket except AutoTrain, but what it won't let you do is purchase a new ticket departing from a different place.

if and when has amtrak raised award point levels

I made a chart to show the differences in the 2001 and 2009 award charts: http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/7957/agra...20012009kq5.pdf Obviously, awards that came and went during that period are not included. AGR has changed the available awards (adding/dropping things) more frequently than...

    New London to DC

There are some groups of four seats that face each other, but no tables. There are tables in the cafe car, which you might be able to use (though you would probably want to patronize the cafe in that case as that is the purpose of those tables).

    Chase tightening up credit

That is only supposed to happen if you carry a balance (of even $0.01), and almost all cards have the same rule. I use an Amex credit card, pay in full every month, and am never charged interest. To the OP, the AGR Chase World Mastercard is a World card that has a preset spending limit plus...

if and when has amtrak raised award point levels

There have been a handful of changes to rail travel awards, but not many. The biggest change was when NEC trains went all-reserved and costs doubled on those routes; shortly thereafter the Northeastern zone was introduced. Here is the very first rail award chart...

    Buy points

Well, it doesn't seem to actually let you buy more than 10,000 points. Selecting any more than that on the first page gives me an error saying "Sorry, the number of points selected will exceed your maximum annual limit." Maybe Select or Select Plus members can purchase more. That would be easy...
