Amtrak moving forward to stop all, most LDT

That would be amazing, but does it seem at all likely considering they all lost full meal service well before Anderson arrived?

    Train whistle (horn) Question

I also like sleeping when it’s colder, but not when it’s REALLY cold. My worst night’s sleep on Amtrak by far was in the Family Bedroom on the TE/SL. It was the lower-level (obviously) of a 40+ year old Superliner I, the HVAC in our car wasn’t the best, and we were literally rolling through the...

Amtrak moving forward to stop all, most LDT

Yeah, they really aren't being shy in that letter. Sounds like Anderson went too far, and now he has to go in the exact opposite direction. I don't want to jinx things, but I doubt the LSL and CL are going to have boxed meals for much longer. I do hope they can hold onto some sort of a Sleeper...

Canadian peak vs off-peak pricing and Corridor connections...

Whoops. Not sure how I got there, but I thought that the Cabin for 2 was smaller, had an in-room instead of a full en suite, and had bunks parallel to the direction of travel. I guess I mentally merged it with the Cabin for 1, then. Still, for two passengers traveling, don't two Cabin for 1s...

    Train whistle (horn) Question

Interestingly, for me it's the temperature that often makes it hard to sleep onboard. I'm okay with rough track and the sound of the horn, but those in-room thermostats aren't getting any younger, and if it gets too cold, I will end up in this unpleasant and grumpy/confused...

    Train whistle (horn) Question

The main reason they are usually at the front on Superliners is that the Trans-Dorm needs to be at the front of the train, so it makes sense to have all the sleepers together on one side of the dining car. On Viewliner trains, the sleepers are always at the back, with the exception of the Boston...

Canadian peak vs off-peak pricing and Corridor connections...

For any Amtrak sleeper itinerary (that is the accommodation, route, and stations you are traveling between), there are five possible prices/buckets. Depending on the time until departure and remaining availability of that accommodation, fares on any particular date (or train number, if there are...

Canadian peak vs off-peak pricing and Corridor connections...

That's why I'm specifically comparing it to low bucket Roomette fares on those trains. ;)

Looks like it's possible to change that, actually. https://xenforo.com/community/threads/change-reply-button-text.119348/ https://xenforo.com/community/resources/change-reply-button-text.5254/

So is it correct to say that the intent is to keep things as close to the current version as possible at first, and then once things are working well, maybe we'll expand from there and utilize new features the site offers? Also, Invision 4.0 remembers what I've been typing if I reload or go to...

    Train whistle (horn) Question

True, but the word "usually" implies a bit less certainty than there is here. I can not find a single example anywhere of the Eagle through-cars not being at the back of the Sunset.

    Train whistle (horn) Question

Wow. We didn't have any issue at all during the two nights we were on the TE last year (in the revenue sleeper, right behind the Trans-Dorm and baggage car). Would you say it was particularly loud or was it just the nature of the sound that made it impossible to sleep?

    Amtrak Coming to Southern MS

I wonder, if the CONO were extended, could the Sunset possibly run through-cars to it?

Canadian peak vs off-peak pricing and Corridor connections...

Two people in a Cabin for 2 on the Canadian costs $1,882.26 USD for the four night ride between Toronto and Vancouver. Meanwhile on Amtrak, two people going from NYP to LAX in a Roomette on the LSL or Cardinal, and then Texas Eagle (or vice versa) is also four nights, but costs $831. Is the...

    Train whistle (horn) Question

You know that the Eagle through-cars operate every day the Sunset runs, right? Also, the Eagle coach and sleeper are always at the back of the Sunset between SAS and LAX, not just "usually". I think the big question here, as I asked in the above post, is whether the OP is traveling in a coach...

    Train whistle (horn) Question

The (CHI-SAS) Texas Eagle is the same story, with one loco and no baggage car, so the CONO isn't totally unique. 1@Veleka[/USER] Will you be traveling in coach or a sleeper?

Massive delays out of Chicago Union Station today (2/28)

Well said. I've gotta say, something about this story just doesn't seem right. I mean, a worker falls off a ladder and onto a circuit board and it devastates Union Station for a day? I'm not totally sure I trust the accuracy of an article in the Chicago Tribune discussing train signal issues...
