An ‘Ocean’ Mileage Run (with lots of photos!)

Thanks for the great trip report. Brought back wonderful memories of our round trip on the Ocean a few years ago. A class train with quality food and personnel. Loved spending a few days in Halifax touring the city, stayed at the Westin. Want to return to Halifax someday

Zephyr - Nap, Il to Provo, Ut - August

Chances are good that the Zephyr will be somewhat late but no way to know on an individual basis. If cost is not a factor I would book the roomette to SLC and then make arrangements with the SCA to disembark at Provo. If your trip is scheduled for this summer, rooms will fill up fast. It is...

RIP Mr. Boardman.  A piece of Amtrak history passes on.   :(

    Following Anniversary Engine #145

Amtrak 145 was involved in an accident and was last reported at Beech Grove for repairs back in Sept 2018.  Since it does not have any current report, it may still be there.

Massive delays out of Chicago Union Station today (2/28)

As of 7:30 Eastern, delays continue. Most commuter people were told to take buses or other forms of transportation to leave the city.  Amtrak trains will be in major delay. Last news conference said it may continue into this evening.

Wind Warnings & Sandusky Bay Bridge Amtrak Traffic

With our current winds gusting to over 60 mph and continuing until tomorrow morning I am wondering if the eastbound 30 and 48 will be delayed in Ohio.  NS had often prohibited traffic across the Sandusky Bay bridge west of Sandusky when winds endanger high container trains.  This has happened to...

    EB/CL Connection in Chicago

The connection has traditionally been a shaky one due to the EB poor OTP but summer months may provide a better chance of making the Cap Ltd.  The Cap has been held for up to an hour or so if the western trains are running only slightly late.  Since we live near Cleveland we have always had the...

    N-scale Viewliner 2 Baggage Cars

I have an N gauge Amtrak Cap Ltd layout under my bed.  Has the new baggage car and transition sleeper along with two other sleepers, 3 coaches including a bag/coach, diner and SSL.  Two P42s pulling the consist.    A nice Kato set that had to replace the 35' x 24' HO layout in my former home...

Riding the Ranchi Shatabdi Express in India - Part 1

A truly fascinating train trip Jishnu.  I am sure we will never get a chance to ride the rails in India, but your reports and photos are truly a great travel guide for us.  Stay safe. and look forward to future reports.

3 to 14 no longer a guaranteed connection?

I believe if I had that connection booked, I would contact Amtrak to make sure it was still valid.  As is usually the case, "assuming" is not always the best policy.

    43 Pennsylvanian questions.

I have ridden the Pennsylvanian several times, both on short rides from Altoona to Harrisburg and on the longer distance PHL to PGH.  I also prefer a quieter setting and a cleaner restroom opportunity in BC. The snack amenities are o.k.   Shorter rides, I usually ride regular coach.

    coach between Toledo and Tampa?

Since we board in CLE, we have similar experience on trips to Fla.  As mentioned above, you may want to opt for a combination coach/sleeper to save some money. If money is not a major factor, I would take the roomette the entire trip.  Otherwise, I would do coach from TOL to WAS since it is a...

    30-42 connection in Pittsburgh

The OP did not mention if they were riding coach or in a sleeper on 30 to PGH.  If 30 is very late and the decision was made to stay on 30 to WAS and connect with an NER there,  the "free ticket" would likely only include a coach ticket and not the ability to remain in the sleeper to WAS.  If...

Which Direction? (traveling on western trains)

If it is the first trip on these trains, I would go with my choices below. Have done both directions and each has its own advantages. CZ westbound (better timing for Rockies viewing) EB eastbound (better chance of seeing Glacier Natl Park in daylight) SWC prefer westbound but...

What if Capitol Limited to Silver Star is a missed connection?

We have traveled the CL to Silver Service connection many times over the years. At times in the past the connection between 30 and 91 was not a guarantee when track work and slow conditions left the CL late many times. We have almost always done a 30 to 97 connection to cover our trip in case...
