Amtraks P-42s have Many More Miles on them, and on lots of LD Routes there is only 1 pulling the Consist.( the Texas Eaglete is Example #1) Not to mention the Maintainence Problems that have occurred @ Amtrak since the Bean Counters and Airline types have taken over.

Because #21 is arriving Very Late into SAS due to delays between Longview and Ft Worth and Freight Inteference between FTW and SAS. The T&E Crews have to have the Required Rest before taking #22 the next morning.

Some examples in Texas are Mineola, McGregor, San Marcos,(Del Rio and Sanderson, although one would have to be included as an emergency Crew change spot since the Long Distances and Freight traffic in West Texas put the T&E Hours Law into play)

The Eagle used to have 3 Sleepers on #421/#422 days between CHI and SAS. Transdorm, #21/# 22 Sleeper and #421/#422 Sleeper. It also had a Bag Car, a Sightseer Lounge, and on some days, 4 Coaches ( counting the CHI-STL Cutout Coach)

Since Am-Management cut off the Eagles wings by turning it into a 4 car consist, ( CCC, 2 Coaches,1 Sleeper)the answer is Yes .
