    Consist (Make-up) of the Cardinal # 50 & 51

The normal consist that I have seen in videos recently, barring any equipment going to or coming from Beech Grove, is Locomotive, Coach, Coach, Cafe, Sleeper, Baggage/Dorm. As for any given day, there may be changes to the consist for demand (IF Amtrak MANAGEMENT had any sense at all).

    Brand new coaches in India

I think you underestimate the role some of the LD trains play in rural areas of the west… just look at the ridership vs population statistics for the empire builder as an example, especially across the states of Montana and North Dakota

Florida to Boston Trip, need help with luggage

    When did that get implemented?

    Boarding at an unstaffed station

Sounds like a standard passing siding. Convention is that the passenger station is sighted along the main line, and the passing siding shouldn’t be used by the passenger trains in normal operations.

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

Probably to have a simpler (Read: Cheaper) locomotive.

Lake Shore Limited - running Superliners now?

I don't think running superliners is even physically possible on the LSL, and a quick search of the Amtrak reservation site shows that they are no longer making a distinction between the two types of sleepers on the reservation page. It seems that Amtrak's IT department has struck again...

Private operation of long distance trains?

I don't think the REA counts as a "Passenger" operation, as it was explicitly an LCL (less than carload) carrier.

Auto Train: Roomette and Bedroom, 2 cars question

Looks like you can book up to the number of adults as the number of vehicles, so booking a single Bedroom with 2 adults and 2 cars should be your best option. Hope you have a great trip!

Zephyr approaching Chicago Union Station (CUS) with headlight off (3/31/22)

Normal is to dim the headlights, and extinguish the ditch lights, when approaching other trains. This is a courtesy to other engineers, as even during daylight a locomotive's headlights and ditch lights are designed to be nearly blinding in intensity.

Texas Eagle 22(31), 3 car train on 3/31/22

Wait, is this the set that had to leave its sleeper in Washington over the weekend?

Texas Eagle 22(31), 3 car train on 3/31/22

@neroden Is this an ADA violation? no lower level coach space available on this train.

    Changes to Capitol Limited/Texas Eagle

At the moment, the Capitol Limited is running with only 1 sleeper

Large Tent as a Checked Bag?

Which station are you getting off at? That determines whether or not there is Checked Baggage service.

Taxi? Uber? Lyft? Bus? from SEA station to hotel??

My recommendation would be to use the D or E line Rapid Ride bus, as Google suggests it is about a 15 minute trip from King Street Station to the door of the hotel.

    Trains in rural areas

As an example, I currently live in a metro area of 100,000 people, and our local airport has three routes that operate on a daily basis, usually 2-3 flights each on 50-76 seat aircraft. Our nearest Amtrak station is 2 hours north, and is the second busiest in the state. We also have 2 daily...

Reroute of SWC in the Galesburg area?

maybe the normal line has some trackwork? That other line takes extra time to move around the yard...

    Tracking freight trains

Not really, most freight trains operate as "Extras" that don't have a set schedule. Those that do are not public information, and freight railroads generally don't keep to their own schedules.

Amtrak stations open only to customers?

I've only encountered this attitude at KSS, even when I arrived by a train replacement bus, I had to demand entrance to get my baggage, as all of the doors were locked and a guard was only letting those with tickets through. This was 2020.
