I'd be assumptive and say the Illini & Saluki. Or possibly the NEC between NYP and PHL. It depends on what you consider as not scenic. To me, vast deserts (Sunset Limited) get boring after a little bit, but I've heard that Europeans love them because no such thing exists in Europe.

You'll either get a seat assignment at the station, or upon boarding. I don't think there's a way to know or control which side of the train you'll be on. Mt. Shasta will not be visible at all, unless you have magic night-vision goggles... or unless you're six or more hours late. Mt. Shasta...

Ah, thanks. I knew about the Sunset Limited east of NOL... but I never expected it to still 'show up' on the schedule! The political hurdles that exist to get this service back (in any form) is frustrating.

The westbound Sunset Limited (#1) originates in New Orleans at 9:00am. However, for as back as I can see, for train #1 operations, on asm.transitdocs.com, it shows an arrival of #1 into New Orleans at 6:25am. Anyone know what's happening? This is the most recent one...

It'd be great to know the exact routes that 21 and 22 take on their detours through Texas. I suppose I can periodically check transitdocs to see what's going on.
