I Can Not Add Another Person Onto My Existing Reservation!

You could always try calling back to get a new agent, or ask for a supervisor. I've been able to modify companions on AGR tickets in the past.

How many miles on Amtrak for you in 2012?

Only if you bring a second you to travel the miles!

How many miles on Amtrak for you in 2012?

I don't know. 2013 isn't looking like a big Amtrak year for me. I'll probably have a trip from Washington to Texas and I'm going to a conference in Seattle, but I'm not sure if I'll take the train out or back (since I've already done the Builder). It will probably depend on the number of AGR...

How many miles on Amtrak for you in 2012?

My Amtrak mileage for 2012 comes to 4,951. In terms of mileage, this was my 2nd highest year. This year, I rode 9 Amtrak trains, including trips from New Carrollton to Montréal and return, Denver to Salt Lake City, Los Angeles to San Diego, and Los Angeles to Washington. I added the following...

Are there tunnels on the canadian from Vancouver to Toronto?

There are lots of tunnels. The train goes through some of the most scenic mountainous terrain in North America, and "through" is literal in some cases. As for being claustrophobic, I don't know much about the phobia. But the train car is the same size it was before the train entered the tunnel...

    Hurricane Sandy and Amtrak.

NYCSubway.org has a full set of track maps for the subway system. The 34th Street/Penn Station stations are on the Midtown map.

    Hurricane Sandy and Amtrak.

Current projections from the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang: 45% chance: Storm strikes the coast between northern New Jersey and southern Connecticut. 30% chance: Storm makes direct hit on the Delmarva Peninsula and Washington DC. 20% chance: Storm runs up the coast, finally hitting...

    DC Union Station Design Changes

The Union Station Redevelopment Corporation is proposing some major changes to the Great Hall in Washington Union Station. These will be the first significant changes since the Great Hall was reopened in 1988. The proposal calls for cutting two new escalator shafts through the floor to connect...

    Select +

Yes. A friend of mine is Select Plus, and he gets access to the lounges. He brought me along once, so I can personally confirm that it works.

    Embarking from LAUS

I've used LA Union Station several times before, for Metrolink, Metro, and the Surfliner, but never for a Long Distance train. My understanding is that LAUS does not have a Metropolitan Lounge. How does boarding for sleeping car passengers work? I'm taking the Southwest Chief. Any tips for...

    WAS to BWI

Yes, that's right. Remember, that Amtrak has to have seats based on the max load point, which I would guess is the North River Tunnels. Since trains (and subways and buses) aren't generally full when they leave their suburban terminals, they have empty seats. Not because they don't have good...

    WAS to BWI

If it were up to me, I'd take MARC. Trains run more frequently (at least during rush hour), they're cheaper, and there's a risk involved with taking Amtrak. If the Regional you're booked on started in Richmond, it could easily be delayed by CSX in Virginia. MARC trains can have problems, too...

San Francisco to New York via Chicago

Welcome! I want to wish you the best of luck with your trip. I hope you enjoy your visit to America. You'll be fine. You shouldn't encounter any safety problems on Amtrak at all. I know that among Europeans America has a reputation for crime, and it is true that there is more violent crime in...

1st Trip and Last Trip, If That

I take the train a good bit (and have been bustituted twice). For one of the bustitutions, I found out when I got to the station. If I'd known 6 months in advance, I still wouldn't have changed anything, and I don't regret taking the train, either. The second case, was due to a delay in the...

Empire Builder detour 10/15 to 11/3

I guess you're not aware of the issue. Devils Lake is in a closed basin. The water checks in, but it doesn't check out. As a result, the water keeps rising. The line is not being raised to prevent the tracks from being subject to periodic flooding. The line is being raised to prevent it from...

    Adirondack to Montreal Questions

Yes. In fact, the Adirondack is running with the Great Dome right now, and through October 21. More info: http://www.amtrak.com/ccurl/224/970/Amtrak-Dome-Car-2012-ATK-12-076.pdf

    lower vs. upper level roomette

I also prefer the lower level roomettes. As others have pointed out, it's closer to the restrooms and the shower. It's also easy to step out for fresh air at the smoke stops. As for scenery, I spend most time in the Sightseer Lounge. That way I can see out both sides of the train. Anyway, good...

Baggage-to check or not to check?

On Viewliners, in the roomettes, there is a cubby for suitcases at the same level as the top bunk. This cubby is above the ceiling of the hallway, and is only accessible from your room.

    Spring Break

I'd also point out that the drinking age in the United States is 21. Most college students don't make it to 21 until their junior year or so, which means that most can't purchase or bring alcohol on the train anyway.
