    Small plane discussion

I flew (as a passenger) on 767s from Chicago to Reykjavik on Icelandair and hated it. Those coach seats were thin and uncomfortable, far worse than those in my 1959 C150.

Chicago Travel Order - 14 day quarantine

I live in Evanston. Please don't come up here. Keep your bugs to yourself. Just kidding. Sort of. Evanston is a university town (Northwestern) and is liberal and well-educated, hence pretty good with the masking and distancing, and our covid rate is low now.

    Small plane discussion

Back in the 80s (I think) my wife and I flew one of those PBA DC-3s from Miami to Marathon in the Keys one winter day. We were sitting in the very last seats in the tail, there was a bit of a crosswind, and we felt every one of those rudder inputs to keep us on the centerline. I loved it. A...

CZ CHI-RNO and back for Jul 4th weekend: What should I document?

Be aware that Chicago is imposing a mandatory 14 day quarantine on all travelers coming in from the 14 hotspot states, including California, Nevada and Utah, effective 12:01 a.m. Monday July 6.

Cross country travel: are there any quarantines affecting train travel

Effective at midnight Sunday, Chicago requires that everyone traveling there from 14 hotspot states undergo a mandatory 14 day lockdown.

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

Since I live in a retirement community whose population is aged and largely infirm, I am treating every hard surface I encounter as if it is radioactive, keeping people 12 feet away (not 6) even if they are masked, and staying 30 feet away if they aren't. And I handwash and sanitize to beat the...

Damn, I had to look up "phonation."

How do feel about riding "Coach" ?

For me the issue is traveling with a service dog. Folks in coach, especially youngsters, want to interact with him, and that is not good, for it distracts him from his job: alerting me to certain sounds. It's hard to get any sleep because passersby in the aisle often speak to the dog, waking him...

What I miss about Amtrak train rides . . .

All of the above, distilled into the anticipation of adventure as the Zephyr pulls out of Chicago Union Station.

    Strange Incident at Flagstaff 4(3)

Wonder if she told the conductor she was going to be met and he took her at her word. We need to know the whole story.

    Updates on Chicago Boarding?

As a retired professional grammar n a z i I have to agree with DA's correction but must say it indeed is unnecessary. The original title was clear. The revised title does mislead.

    Lounge Passes bummer

Last week I was upgraded to Guest Rewards Select, and given two passes to the first/business class lounges. So I went to Chicago Union Station to meet a friend incoming on Amtrak, and had an hour to burn before her arrival. Upon proffering my passes, I was told they were no good unless I had a...

    California Zephyr Winter 2017 Delays

I hear from Amtrak personnel in Denver that 5 is going CHI-SLC only and that there are no bus bridge plans. So I cancelled my March 1 departure on the Zephyr to Emeryville and rebooked on No. 3 to L.A. and 14 to Emeryville. Things might improve before then but better safe than sorry.

    California Zephyr Winter 2017 Delays

Sure hope that washout is fixed by March 1. I'm scheduled to head out on 5 from Chicago that date.

    Service horses

The State of Michigan, where I spend half the year, has a VOLUNTARY service animal program that helps a bit. A licensed physician must fill out and sign a medical approval attesting to the applicant's disability and need for a service animal, and the applicant must provide documentary proof of...

Hoosier State Going from IPH Back to Amtrak

I rode the IP twice. Nice, but in my opinion not all that different from Amtrak.

    Empire Builder - Family Bedroom

Did the fam bedroom on the Cap Limited with my wife and service dog. Lots of room. We usually book a full bedroom but my dog was recovering from a broken hind leg and we didn't think he should go up and down the stairway to the upper level. It was fine, although we really prefer being upstairs...

    Service horses

According to the US Justice Department's ADA rules, a service animal is either a dog or a miniature horse. Not pigs, turkeys, cockroaches or other species. (As was mentioned, airlines are under different rules.) I'm surprised that PVD's Amtrak employee manual mentions animals other than dogs or...

    Service horses

Has anyone on this forum ever personally seen (NOT heard about) a miniature service horse riding Amtrak? If so, I'd love to hear about it. (Yes, this is for the book I'm writing about traveling with service animals.) The attached, by the way, was at Galesburg on No. 5 in 2015. Not a horse, but...
