Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-1Q 2024)

And for all the grade crossings eliminated and the like, I give you this: http://i.imgur.com/vZ8qJ1C.gif Still happening here folks.

Portable Wi-Fi hotspots and hair dryers

There's a decent chance, depending on the wattage of the hair dryer you might cause the circuit breaker to trip (not sure the exact layout, but I think all roomettes/bedrooms share a single circuit breaker per side of the car). The first time you do that, the car attendant might not say much...

Service dog stops on Crescent from New Orleans to Washington

At ATL, if you go upstairs, at the top of the stairs to the right is a small park. Sometimes it's locked, but usually not. It has a grassy area.

    President-Elect @ Union Station

And as a friend reported... none of his supporters seem to know to stand to the right and walk to the left! (Seriously, I know when I arrived on the 19th in 2009 it was obvious who the out of towners were, simply based on escalator etiquette.) And agreed, bad place to hold a reception/party...

    Viewliner Names

I still find it curious that they'd skip Trenton, a city that Viewliners actually visit in favor of some of the other city names. Makes one go "hmm"

Consist of the No.20 Crescent, which side to sit?

I can only speak for the ATL-WAS segment and for some reason tend to end up more on the right side than left. The left is a bit nicer going into WAS, but honestly, it doesn't matter much in my opinion.

can 2 people with separate reservation be in the same roomette?

For the record I've done this. Met a friend in WAS (I got on in NYP) and went on to Orlando. All she did was change her reservation to an 'open sleeper' and linked it with my reservation number and we were all set.

Overnight in Coach in Winter~ New Orleans to New York

I bring my own down sleeping bag and if I remember it a travel pillow. I really need two pillows, one for the small of my back and one for my head. A fleece usually works for one.

Viewliner II - Part 1 - Initial Production and Delivery

If I get a head's up and I have the time, I'd be willing to try to get that shot. I suspect a call to the local newspaper could generate some interest.. Good PR.

Viewliner II - Part 1 - Initial Production and Delivery

Well, if the new regime goes for infrastructure and jobs, there's a chance the option will be used. But, I wouldn't hold my breath. But agreed, it would be nice.

    NE Corridor

Oh, I meant to add, if you meant owned (which apparently you don't) MN owns part of the NEC in CT>

    NE Corridor

If you mean not really shared with freight, the Empire Corridor up to Albany (and in fact while CSX still owns this north of Poughkeepsie, it's by pretty much most definitions now in Amtrak control.)

    Roomette luggage capacity

Not sure what Diane was thinking, but that's not accurate. There IS a small luggage area over the hallway. That said, yeah, just toss them on the upper bunk and raise it up. You'll have plenty of room.

Viewliner II - Part 1 - Initial Production and Delivery

That is my understanding, start to get more crews familiar with it. And I believe Amtrak is expecting several more by the end of January. So my guess is we'll start to see them on more routes come February. (perhaps in time finally for my annual trip to Atlanta!)

    Questions about The Vermonter

There's overhead racks and there should be racks at one end of the car with room for luggage.

What is the trick to purchasing a cheap sleeper?

Also btw, keep in mind a sleeper includes your meals in the diner so you can calculate that into your "cost" compared to coach. Congrats on finding a room.

Viewliner II - Part 1 - Initial Production and Delivery

Ah, ok so Monday is bringing something other than what I was sort of hoping, but still excellent news. And will Tuesday or Wednesday have highs in the 90s? Like say say 97?

Viewliner II - Part 1 - Initial Production and Delivery

Truth is, it's taken that long for ThirdRail7 to find the right meme graphics to post. But now that he's on top of that, the cars are forthcoming. One correction, all the full-baggage cars have been delivered. And Amtrak did make at least one change midstream (I believe it was fewer...

Hmm... How many times should we do this? 3 times? 4 times, 5? More?
