Is Dallas a good touristy town?

I stayed at the Lawrence a few years ago. No problems at all. The staff was friendly. They had a shuttle van which I used to get to Fair Park, though now I gather the light rail will take you there.

OK! FEC 7558 is also an EMD GP-9, also of Pennsylvania RR heritage (#7038), built in November of 1955. Mike

    Ragin' Rails Raid 2011

Patrick, I'm going to assume the fine print rules for "Name that Diesel" specify only one winning answer every thirty days, so I'll refrain from answering this challenging query. Thanks again for sharing your Ragin' Rails Raid with us! Mike

    Lake Shore Limited Questions

I was on 448 less than two weeks ago. Unfortunately it was rubber-tired and much less enjoyable than usual :( In the past the cafe has had two choices available. From salads to sandwiches to a pot-roast like beef entree. Check the link ReidTYK posted to see the latest offerings. If nothing...

    Ragin' Rails Raid 2011

Actually, Rob T was on the ground at West Liberty, near the station, and I said hello to you and Alice from the dutch door of the coach in front of the Super Dome. At least I think it was you, Patrick, you were hiding behind your camera! Sorry we missed out on an in-person meet, hopefully...

Today's 48 will become tomorrow's 49. In the cold months, 48 becomes one of the next day's Silver trains to Florida.

Anyone shower out of N.O. on Crescent?

Once the SCA has introduced him/herself, and explained the features of your room, head to the shower. Then get dressed and go to the diner for breakfast. I've boarded the LSL in CHI, and was in the shower before the SCA had completed boarding the other passengers. The shower is there for you...

    Red Cap Tips

I usually use a Redcap when departing BOS or NYP. One or two bags, $5 tip and my thanks, too. They always seem pleased :) Can not speak to CHI, although considering the walk to the 4820 sleeper, I may look into it ;) Mike

    Superliner vs. Viewliner Bedroom

It's not just you, HotlantaAl. During my past two trips in a Viewliner Bedroom, the bedroom end of the car was rather warm; the roomette end seemed cooler, but not cold. Mike

    hotel near washington union station

After Jim posted about the PPH, I changed my NTD reservation to the PPH. I highly recommend it. My only complaint was the early morning brakfast staff, I think they may not have been completely awake :) The Phoenix Park is a member of the Historic Hotels of America; I've reserved a room at...

    Viewliner Upgrades

Ok One more time :) While travelling home on the Lake Shore after a fun-filled NTD weekend, I was ticketed in Room B, of car 62021, Morning View. I saw that work had been started on some upgrades to this car. First, I saw new light fixtures in the hallway: New ceiling lights 62021 by J-1...

Hotel suggestions in Chicago, Milwaukee, or regional towns?

Welcome to the Forum. Just make two, or more, reservations, and print the tickets as you travel. If there is an agent or a quick trak machine, you can opt to have them printed at the station. The very few times I had to have a ticket mailed, it believe it arrived shortly after I made the...
