No Food or Drinks in Club Acela

I suspect the rule was created to deter guests from bringing fish head soup, and the like, into the lounge. As with many rules, we all suffer for the few inconsiderate folks among us.

Article about new train Boston-Cape Cod

Just some information about service to Provincetown: The Old Colony Railroad began service to P town in 1873. Passenger service continued until 1938, after which only freight service was provided. The tracks were removed in 1960. Mike

    Help a first time cross-country traveler :)

Welcome to the forum! #4 Yes, the Silver Line is easy to navigate. As you walk into South Station from the LSL, walk straight through the waiting area, as you see the doors onto Summer St, head down the stairs/escalator in the center. Walk straight ahead to the Charlie Card vending machine...

bag storage in the Washington DC First-Class Lounge

Yes, you may leave your bags in the Club Acela. I have done so many times with no problems. I believe there is a bag storage option in the station, but it is an outside concern, not Amtrak. IIRC, it was rather expensive. Perhaps another poster might have more details about this option. Mike

    Dinner on 97?

Possibly because the train is on a through track, not a stub track. Shore power would not usually be needed on a through track. FWIW, the power might be on for five minutes of the 10-15 it is off while the engine is swapped; probably not worth the effort.

How far ahead to book a roomette on SWC

chakk said: And it is rare indeed today for Amtrak to LOWER fares for sleeper rooms at the very last minute, in order to fill any remaining empty rooms. I believe their logic is that doing so might entice even more people to wait to the last minute to book sleeping car space. ( sarcasm)...

Is it possible to change to business class after ticket purchase?

I'm fairly certain you will be paying the going rate for your seat, $100, with the BC upcharge on top. Changing to BC will be $75 more.

    Online PDF ticket question...

If your EB trip begins the same day as your Cascades trip to SEA, than yes, you may use the lounge.

Does Amtrak Have a "Standby" Policy?

Amtrak would be just as likely/unlikely to sell the seat now freed up on a later train, whose same-day price will not be $49. In other words, give your current passenger, whose fare you've had for possibly months, a break.

Does Amtrak Have a "Standby" Policy?

I was able to change to an earlier departure once in NYP, heading home to BOS, for no extra fare. The ticket should have been more expensive, but the CA agent and Arrow could not work it out, so she priced it at the same fare. Like Amamba, I wish for a change to this policy. In fact, this may...

Where to stay in Seattle & LA?

In Seattle, I've stayed at the Best Western Pioneer Square http://www.pioneersquare.com/ twice, and the Courtyard Seattle Downtown Pioneer Square http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/seaps-courtyard-seattle-downtown-pioneer-square/ once. I enjoyed my stay at both hotels, and I consider...

Changes to customer service on severely late train, not for the better

Remember, when the song was written, in 1949, it was the MTA. The MBTA was created in 1964.

    NTD 2013 Announced

Thanks for posting that link, SubwayNut. I was certain I read about the Parade of Trains weekend, but could not find it again. While I've enjoyed being in Philadelphia over Washington for National Train Day, I'll be at Grand Central Terminal the weekend of May 10-12th. Mike

Union Station Chicago - some questions

Yes, you can walk through Union Station with a drink. This is allowed so that you can buy an adult beverage to consume on your commute home on Metra. I have seen the same over at Ogilvie. They are served in covered plastic cups.
