New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

The legislation is already there...... just needs to be implemented. But if we were talking airlines here....No Problem! There's been US pre-clearance at Canadian Airports since the early 1950s!

New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

With GO planning increased service Niagara Falls ON once this thing is over.....it would make sense to terminate the Maple Leaf at the Border. Passengers arriving on the Empire Service would clear Canadian CBSA in a joint facility in the new Amtrak Station on the US side then board a GO Train...

    Edmonton <> Calgary......A Future Corridor?

Looks like a CP Air ad cut off on the right of the VIA ad above. Did CP Rail do much advertising for the 'Dayliner' prior to VIA?

Canadian Pacific buying Kansas City Southern?

It was actually the Soo Line Corp that recently re-acquired the old CP mainline across the State of Maine from the Central Maine & Quebec Railway: Soo Line Corporation-Control-Central Maine & Quebec Railway, Inc. So I imagine it will be the Soo Line Corp acquiring KCS.

    Edmonton <> Calgary......A Future Corridor?

Perhaps waaaaay in the future! Lethbridge has a pop of around 100,000 and is 200km south of Calgary. The last passenger train was a RDC 'Dayliner' in 1971....50 years ago.

    New ONR development

Perhaps it was in 1988? I have book on the history of ON and it says 2 buses were acquired in 1988 with 'new features' including TVs, movies and a music system. Just two years prior in '86...ON had planned to acquire GO type Bi-Levels cars outfitted for a new overnight train including Coaches...

    New ONR development

I rode the 'Northland' a couple of times in the '70s and '80s. It originated in Kapuskasing (Kap-us-kay-sing) on CN. The Ontario Northland Railway took over at Cochrane....then it was back to CN at North Bay and onto Toronto. Here’s the 'Northland' #88 arriving Toronto, Nov. 10, 1974 (and with...

    New ONR development

I believe ONR began that Slumber Lounge Bus when the jointly operated VIA-ONR 'Northland' was discontinued in Jan. 1990. The Northland ran overnight between Toronto-North Bay-Cochrane-Kapuskasing with coaches and Sleepers. The daytime 'Northlander' began in the late '70s and originally used the...
