How long could this strike last, and could it affect the SWC, on which I'm booked for 12/20 ABQ~ L.A. ?

Our last election for Governor of New Mexico put a Republican in office (Susana Martinez.) and getting funding is like getting blood from a stone.

Amtrak Buses - How bad are they??

I read about that in "When Buses Go Bad".

Amtrak Buses - How bad are they??

Boy, I wish I could say the same. With my 6' 2" height I can't enjoy a bus or plane ride. My knees are always firmly planted in the back of the seat in front of me.

    San Diego

How about Paradise Point? I think that used to be Vacation Village some years back. According to Google Maps, the Amtrak stop in Old Town is half the distance that the downtown station would be. I assume you won't have checked luggage, as the Old Town stop (according to Amtrak) doesn't handle...

    Purchasing tickets for late trains

My answer is "I don't know" but I'm going to guess if there's an agent there he/she may be able to sell you one. Now, we await a more informed response. :-)

What good, cheap hotel can you recommend in Boston?

Good and cheap sounds like an oxymoron. :-) I love Boston and used to go there for long weekends when I lived in Hartford, CT which is conveniently located about half way between NYC and Boston. However my Boston days were in the 70's, and I often stayed at the YMCA near the art museum. I'll...

    companion certificate

OK ~ What's a companion in reference to Amtrak? I've worked much of my life as a hospice nurse, and in my mind, a companion is someone who accompanies you, to assist and take care of you.

Can I use another's a deceased partners accout?

First off ~ welcome to the group, hang around, read, and post. There's lots of good folks and good info regardless of how often one travels. Second off, I'm not knowledgeable enough to give you an answer, but others here will be. Third off, and I'm not going to get too political, but, this is...

Like you, I could upgrade, but prefer to spend my money after arrival at my destination, wining and dining friends.

If you're uncomfortable associating with those from coach, perhaps you could have your meals brought to you. That would have the added benefit of allowing coach passengers to eat with someone who's not uncomfortable in their presence.

    Luggage rack question in sleeper

Here's a tip I saw on the TV show COPS last night. A guy they arrested had a clean (?) pair of underwear stuffed in the sleeve of his jacket. He said he didn't have anywhere else to put it. :giggle:
