10% Point Rebate on AGR Redemptions

Talked to a rep; yes, it was option 6. My April trip was already booked and points were deducted Feb. 4. This morning, they credited back the original points, then deducted them again and also posted 2 X 2000 points as "Bonus" for a net redemption of 36,000 points, not 40,000 as originally...

10% Point Rebate on AGR Redemptions

The way it posted for me is that the rebate registered as separate "Bonus" point transactions. So quite possibly, if I canceled my 40,000 point trip, the 4K may stay up since it's a separate entry. OTOH, maybe the bonus is linked with the redemption and a cancellation would negate the bonus...

10% Point Rebate on AGR Redemptions

I just called this morning, and got a 4000 point rebate from my original 40,000 point redemption for my upcoming trip in April. :) I was on hold 7 minutes for the first rep, then maybe another minute or so for the 2nd rep. The first guy said the long wait was because they were backed up...

    My AGR Nightmare

Yikes! :o What a story! You've heard of the harmonic convergence? This is a discordant convergence! Sounds like it'll be a great trip once you get it all straightened out though. Have a good time!

    sexual assault

Technically I believe you are correct. You can sue anybody for anything. :o Whether you'll persuade the justice system is another question--seems to me you'd have to have compelling physical or corroborative evidence of some sort to prevail. If you think this is serious enough to press...

Favorite snacks to take on a train LH or SH

Yes, fruit is good. I usually bring a few oranges for a between meal snack or for dessert. Although I love the cakes, ice cream, etc., some roughage is appreciated too! I wonder why they don't offer apples and oranges; seems like they'd keep pretty well, certainly for a few days.

    AGR Insider at FlyerTalk

Yes, this little datum is quite telling. Its been nagging me since I read your original post. I wonder if the use of "loophole" is specific to this particular rep, who reads this forum, or whether "loophole" is common parlance at AGR, e.g.: 1st AGR rep: "How's your day going?" 2nd AGR rep...

    train to nowhere?

The writer is a complete idiot. "A bus connects Madison to Amtrak service at Columbus. The Empire Builder covers the 65 track miles between Madison and Columbus in one hour, 10 minutes." Huh? 1) Madison to Columbus is 30 miles, not 65 miles. 2) The Empire Builder does not go to...

Silver Star - Scanner and Timetable Questions

I too have the BC72XLT but I have the stock <_< 6" antenna. I live about 1.5 miles from the CN and WSOR mainlines and their junction between Milwaukee and Fond du Lac. There's always a lot of action at the junction (which is like a mini-yard with a few storage tracks) and I have no problem...

Amazed at the ease of loophole booking

Yah, I tend to agree. I think the percentage of Amtrak travelers who actually use these loopholes is very, very small and so it doesn't affect the bottom line very much. We do cost Amtrak some extra meals, perhaps up to 15 meals for a 5-day trip. I suppose that on occasion, if the sleepers are...

    Sleeper Meals Info??

I had the crab cakes special for dinner on the Capitol Limited about a year and a half ago and they were excellent!

"That's one heck of a loophole"

Very nice list! Thank you for organizing it. Here is another known 1 zone loophole you could add to your list: Port Huron, MI or Detroit, MI --> Chicago, IL --> Washington, DC --> Miami, FL EDIT: Ooops! Never mind, I see it is already on your list, I missed it the first time

"That's one heck of a loophole"

Actually, I (aka the Loophole Guru) discovered the 1 zone Pomona, CA --> Springfield, IL --> Emeryville, CA loophole. Posted September 15, 2009. Also, I discovered these 1 zone loopholes, which I have already reported: Kansas City, MO --> Los Angeles, CA --> Portland, OR --> Columbus...

WI gubernatorial candidate comes out as anti-rail

I am thrilled to read this article!! I hope to be taking this train to Madison several times a week from one of the intermediate stops, probably Oconomowoc, maybe Brookfield. Either station would be about a 20-25 mile drive for me from home, but my drive now is ~80 miles, plus the traffic...

WI gubernatorial candidate comes out as anti-rail

Why should the entire operating cost be absorbed by the users? Seems to me there is a public benefit from having another mode of transportation. Even those who choose to drive benefit from fewer cars on the road and less pollution. This is completely specious. There will be stops in...

    5 in a Roomette

An oblique, intended to be humorous, reference to a previous thread in which we took the "let's move into a roomette" ball and ran with it. It began with a microwave oven and evolved into a gas grill, flat panel HDTV with surround sound, swimming pool, patio furniture with umbrella, volleyball...
