Let's see if Amtrak uses this as an excuse to "truncate" the Sunset to SAS on a permanent basis.... IE, discontinue it and just have the Eagle. At least they might then have enough equipment for a sightseer on the Eagle.

That 70 MPH is based off of a FL wind which isn't translating to the surface due to the vertical structure, and an SFMR report of 50 knot winds where at the same time the actual OBSERVATION was reporting 26 knots, again largely due to the vertical structure. As mentioned above yesterday...

I have to say that the risk of impacts to travel on the Silvers is increasing.... not because the risk of this being a hurricane is increasing, but because the risk of it being called a hurricane is increasing, and what it's called is what the RR's will take action based on.

Yeah, but the low-level and mid-level (what you can see on EYW radar) centers are completely de-coupled. This thing ain't going nowhere intensity-wise unless that gets fixed, and it's quickly running out of real estate and time.

FWIW, looks like NHC is extremely ummmmm... cautious.... with their forecast for this system. To be honest, I'm not even sure it has a center of circulation anymore.
