There have been delays due to frozen switches.
Is that due to not enough signaling persons available to unfreeze those switches? In the past is has been posted that Amtrak tries to run most trains straight thru most switches and take the delays. There are definitely more 10 minute and 30+ minute delays today. Yellow for 10 - 29, red for 30 - 59 & black 60 - more. This only applies to NEC trains and not LD.

Regional trains are slightly longer colors green 0 - 19, Yellow 20 - ?, red ?

Chicago can't seem to get any trains out on time today.

I recently bailed on the Lake Shore Limited and am sitting on the on time South Shore Line to get home to South Bend (we now have an 11:15pm train) I got the notification "Your train may be delayed up to two hours at 7:54pm but unfortunately was too far away from Downtown to take previous 8:15pm train.

I saw the City of New Orleans that pulled away nearly 3 hours late as we followed the old IC corridor out of Chicago.

The only Amtrak agent I could find at 10:45pm (when I needed to leave to get over to Van Buren Station) was in the Metropolitan Lounge - the Amtrak police manning the great hall recommended that when I asked if they knew where any staff were - was excellent calling someone to find out if the Lake Shore had been spotted and came into the station- Answer No! She basically agreed with me the Lake Shore wouldn't be leaving anytime soon.

As of 12:45am CT as I go through Michigan City, it appears the Lake Shore STILL hasn't left Chicago yet.

I will say Amtrak needs better training for their agents when passengers call to cancel a ticket because of a late departing train. When I called at 11:20pm, the agent I talked to first tried to redirect me to customer relations because my ticket had no value I then pushed back and said the train hasn't left yet it's nearly 2 hours late. She looked into it further and then was able to issue me a refund.

Now 7 hours late and it doesn't seem to appear in the train tracking map on the Amtrak site the last time I checked.

For those passengers on 448 who were planning on travelling further by bus or train, it looks like a pleasant night on a bench in South Station.

Yup!

I defiantely made the right choice. Had a 9am meeting at work, and can't believe the Lake Shore didn't stop in South Bend until 7:29am this morning. 4 hours of sleep in a bed was defiantly better than no sleep in a bed.
