Is the Amtrak senior discount still available? I've been checking some fares on the Amtrak website and the senior fare is the same as regular fare.

Until recently, it showed up front, now it doesn't show until you get to the payment page, but it's still there. Just did a dry run to check.

Remember it applies to rail fare only, not accommodation charges or Business Class seat charges. It also doesn't apply to AGR award travel.

It is there. If you are using the browser you have to select when starting your trip search. If you have an AGR profile, it can be saved in there but is only applied automatically in the app. Again, you have to choose it every time when using the browser version.

One the website, under Traveler

Select the dropdown menu - set Adult to "0" (it is 1 by default) and select Senior "1" (or the number of seniors there are)

When you select a train the senior discount will be applied and shown as the price you will pay at booking

The website says the passenger may be a asked for proof of age when purchasing and on board. In practice, I don't recall the website ever asking for birthdate, or certification of age. Seems reasonable to assume you're eligible if you're of a qualifying age at the time of travel.
I have never been asked for proof of age ... guess it could happen since I am often told I look like I am in my 50's when I am in my 70's
Conductors will ask for ID when prompted by their device to do a random ID check upon ticket scan. That happens but it is pretty infrequent. That's the only time they'll verify age for the senior discount.
