Amtrak short term cancellations and restorations (2022)

I'm curious why the eastbound Capitol Ltd. and Cardinal left Chicago last night (15th) but the eastbound Lake Shore Ltd. didn't. It's the last train out of Chicago as I recall.

Was timing bad for the westbound LSL to leave Boston & NYC on the 15th, so there'd be an equipment imbalance?

Just received a Robo Call from Amtrak that the San Diego-LAX Surfliner portion of my Amtrak Trip home from the Gathering on Sunday has been Cancelled "due to a Service Disruption"!!!!

It goes on to say that Amtrak is Sorry for the Disruption and to Call as there is " Alternate Transportation Available",no doubt meaning Bustitution.

IINM there's Trackwork going on between San Diego and points North,which has already required the Gatheting Committe to have to reschedule parts of the Itinerary for Group Activities!!

Of course if you can’t get out of there, you might be forced to hang out at the beach for ages until the trackwork is done.

Yup. Same track outage from San Diego North all weekend.

These are just weekend outages though. Not long term. Most of the outages are scheduled for the next year, but we got caught in one of the two this year apparently.

Found out today that the Cancellations of the Surfliners from San Diego on Sunday 10/9 due to track work, will be a Bustitution from San Diego to Irvine, ( 2 Hours/20 Minutes, with a Transfer to a Surliner in Irvine to LAX.( 22 Minutes!!)

I need to get from San Diego to the John Wayne Airport on October 22. Apparently Amtrak is only offering a bus option between San Diego and Irvine on that day.

Is there an issue then? Track work? I haven't found any explanation, and I'm disappointed to miss out on the train ride!
