Hey Steve, want to take a trip on the Capitol and do some recon work for us?

is it a wrong to assume that by cutting the number of diner/cafe cars in half that you double the amount of available equipment for LD routes?

It does seem as though there will be a surplus of equipment, but I don't think anyone knows what the fate of the non-converted cars will be.

I'm sure it would increase the amount of that type of equipment, however that's not where Amtrak has a shortage of equipment. They need more sleepers and more coaches, and that would be an expensive overhaul.

Additionaly, since it seems that the plan would be to put two of these converted cars onto the busier routes during peak times, there won't be that many extra cars lying around all the time.

I'm currently working on a plan to be aboard 29(16), which (at this point) is slated to have 37000 in its consist. I'll let y'all know what happens.

That car happened to be on track 17 in Chicago on Thursday last.

I seriously hope they add a diner-lounge to the Cardinal, even if it is SDS. Anything would be better than the current Dinette fare!

I look forward to hearing from you rmadisonwi! Your recon should make interesting reading and lead to interesting discussion here on the forum.

I have pictures of them building 37000 in Beech Grove... back in early November.
