One needn't walk through Placita Olvera to get to Phillipe's. The quickest route to Phillipe's is, in fact, not through the Placita but straight up Alameda St.:hi: ALC is correct, take the REDLINE SUBWAY right in Union Station to the Pershing Square Stop Downtown. Phillipes famous Resturant is only Two Blocks from Union Station, Great Breakfasts and French Dip Sandwiches. On the way to Phillpes you will walk through the First Site of LA,Olivera St., sort of a faux Mexican Village worth a look and China Town is behind this. Dont forget to Check Out Beautiful Union Station also, it"s Fantastic!!
Not blasphemy, and looks like it's pretty much around the block from the Metro Plaza hotel. I'm partial to brisket, and looking forward to giving the joint a try.Personally, my restaurant of choice when I'm in LA is the Spring Street Smokehouse- take Alameda north to Chavez, then west on Chavez to Spring and enjoy delicious barbecue and a constantly rotating selection of craft beer. I am aware, however, that this is blasphemy for this particular forum.
Everyone's definition of walking distance is different. I've walked it many times with no issue but others may have a bigger problem with it.I'm curious as to why its not walkable. Google maps shows it as 1.2 miles from LAUS.

For Someone not Familiar with Downtown LA I suggest they ride the Subway or even take a Cab to Pershing Square! Even though Downtown is being Gentrified, there still are Street Characters and Bad Guys around on the Streets and as Others have said you can Actually have Trouble Finding stuff Downtown if not familiar with it! Be a LA Person, dont Walk, Ride! :lol:I'm curious as to why its not walkable. Google maps shows it as 1.2 miles from LAUS.
It is walkable. I was going to guess about a mile but defer to google maps.
