taking the coast starlight again from Santa Barbara into Oregon and last time I had a bedroom with potty for me, and the view was great until dark. (3 hours or so into trip) I see the lower level family bedroom is larger, a hundred bucks less too...are the views from there any good or will I have to go upsatairs anyways. Is that room really any larger for one?

The family bedroom has windows on both sides of the train which is a great advantage IMO. The views are fine from the lower level.

Note that the Family room doesn't have a private bathroom and it really is designed for a family of 2 adults & 2 kids. There is also only 1 per car, which means that most trains only have 2 family rooms.

Views are fine, but note the windows are smaller, too. Both sides is an advantage. As otherwise noted, Family Rooms do not have toilet facilities. Think of them as a big roomette.

Thanks for that! Thinks I'll switch and save a hundred and twenty bucks. The restroom is really close I think anyways

A bit more track noise, but less traffic noise from the hallways IMO. I like the lower level, feels more private.
