I have always loved trains, the whistle, the tracks, the mystery, the history. I was lucky enough to ride the California Zephyr, The Wolverine, and the Capitol. That pesky little issue of work has kept me from traveling as much as I like. But I am excited to say I'm treating myself to The Floridian, from Southern Pines, NC to Toledo,Ohio in early December with a tin full of homemade cookies and goodwill in my heart! I will report back!

Thank you! I'm wondering if there will be a viewing car on the Floridian. I splurged on a roomette, but I want to wander a bit. It's going to be so cool! It leaves Southern Pines, NC at sun up, and arrives in Toledo early in the morning in Toledo. So I will see a lot.

Since the Floridian is a single level train it won't have the sightseer lounge observation that the superliner equipped western trains have. If you are in a sleeper they might let you linger in the diner and use that as a lounge.

Maybe that tin of cookies will help! About 6 years ago I drove from North Carolina to Long Island to see family for Christmas. There was a bad wreck and traffic was stopped for over an hour. I jumped out of my car and shared cookies from one of my tins with the stopped cars around me! My son (who took the trip with me) just shook his head. Cookies are good.
