How's the winter snow scenery where YOU are traveling?

It's been another one of those winters where the East gets all the snow and cold. The West looks like the rest of the winter will be warm and dry, after only a couple of good months. In California, they are talking about another year of drought due to the dismally low snowpack. As you go east into the Rockies, things seems to get better, at least at higher elevations. So, how's the view from YOUR train? East or West, let's have some first-person reports, and even photos of snow (or where there should be snow).

We went to Reno after Christmas and could see the tracks that the California Zephyr used. There was plenty of snow there. However, the snow cover is poorer at lower elevations. Quite a few ski resorts have closed in California.

We were on Capitol Limited 3 days ago......there was snow on the ground the whole way from Chicago to DC. The snowy scenery was particularly pretty in Pennsylvania.

We've had a nice, sunny winter with a few storms here and there. It's definitely better than it was last year. :)

I took this thirty minutes ago:

No rain at all in San Francisco in January and very little snowfall in central Sierra now. 25% of normal snowpack for this time of year at Donner Pass. Zero snow at Truckee. Two ski resorts have closed completely until more snow falls. Nothing in forecast for next 10 days.

Here are a couple pics from my 1/26 trip on the eastbound Zephyr. The first is near Donner Pass and the third is (I think) just west of Kremmling, CO, and the second is in Illinois. Edit: had to fix order of pics.

If they'd had a winter like this, the Donner party would have made it over the summit just fine.
Ha! Looks like passengers on the Zephyr through Illinois and Iowa tommorrow and Monday should see lots of snow.
And the LSL and CL look like they'll have some fun too.
If you don't want it all, I'd be happy to take some out here in Oregon!
Tell Amtrak to leave the baggage doors open on the LSL then have them hook it up to the EB once it reaches Chicago. ;)

I drove over Donner Pass few days before Christmas. It was snowing and the CA DOT & CUP were doing road block to make sure that the vehicles are using 4 wheel drive or snow chains. Last week, my brother went through Donner Pass and there were no snow. So that is really bad situation, I mean worse than bad, for California.

Current snowpack at Echo Summit, CA is 25% of the 30-yr mean for this date.

I'm about 60 miles north of the tracks in central Iowa the CZ uses. We got about 6 or so inches of snow here overnight and the wind today is blowing out of the north at 26 mph with gusts up to 36 mph.

So, today is a stay at home day. Lol.

Presently snowing at my house. The prediction is another foot on top of the blizzard we got last week.

I live in the zone in South-central Oregon with the 22% rating. There is some snow in the Cascades above 6000' but down here this morning it is 40* and it is going to rain most of the week.

My most recent trip on the CS over Cascade Summit had less than a foot at the summit. Usually in February it is over 3' (sometimes 7").

I take this back. We got 20" inches of snow yesterday.

Here's the California Zephyr in southeast Iowa on Saturday:

You really want to know what the scenery looks like where I'm traveling? :p

lol
I always wondered why Amtrak/Budd didn't put windows X from the AmCafe. Made for wome pretty boring trips as an LSA. Nice, BIG, (floor-to-ceiling) picture windows wudda been nice........(I get the structural part of it, but a window like on the Talgos, one you can actually see outa, not those damn AmCan peep-holes)
