Very interesting.
This was the longest wooden wharf. There were and still are longer wharfs, Southend Pier in Essex, England is 1.33 miles (I remember my family walking out to the end of it when I was 6 yo, my family didn't want to spend the 6d per person to ride the electric train that ran out to the end. It was a long walk!). But of course this pier was made of an iron structure with a wood deck.
We used to visit Southend Pier a lot. Here is a picture taken with my parents and me in a pram on the pier:
