Could it be a coach vs sleeper issue?

You would think it would be frowned upon to tell a coach passenger that he can't purchase a $6 piece of cake. But then again.... this is amtrak. ha.

On the Silver Meteor a couple weeks ago, the LSA asked my dining companion across the table from me if she wanted dessert. She was obviously on a tight budget and graciously declined. I think she declined the roll and salad, too. I was seated with her just moments before her meal arrived.
