Is it still Amtrak policy that roomette numbers can be changed without incurring additional charges? I have done this multiple times in the past, but I'm running into some issues trying now. The agent on the standard customer service number told me it could be done, but since I paid with points I needed to talk to Guest Rewards instead. They told me that I would have to pay the current fare if I changed the room number. I called back later and was routed to Customer Relations, who also said it was only possible by paying the current fare, which is substantially higher.
Has Amtrak changed their policy so that it is no longer possible to change rooms without a price change? I have done this before and I know others here have as well. The issue is that I'm traveling with someone else boarding at a later station and want to make sure our rooms our adjacent. As of now, they are in different cars. Although I did confirm with the agents that there are two adjacent rooms available, the rooms adjacent to the 2 currently assigned to us are occupied, so I actually need to change both room numbers, which means it would be a very large price difference.
Thanks for any information or advice anyone can offer!
