On the Meteor, I ran into a red bar blocking the doorway to the cafe car from coach while the engine was being changed at WAS. I had detrained from my sleeper for a walk down the platform, and when I got too chilly I decided to board in coach and walk back to my room through the train.

I don't know whether that barricade is deployed when the cafe is closed en route, or was just being used because the power was off.
What did you do? Did you just walk back outside or did you wait for them to remove it?

I know they do that on the cafe/bc car during the power change at Albany on the Maple Leaf.

Since the cafe/BC vestibule is usually closed, I just reboard through the Amfleet I's rear vestibule and lift the barricade to get back into BC.

I ducked under it. A crew member on the platform yelled at me that the cafe was closed, and I told him I was just trying to get back to my sleeper. He was OK with that.

I didn't know you could do that!

It's really annoying that when cafes are close they're just like nobody in here! Like.. let people use the tables please. And of course the first instinct was to yell instead of just.. tell.

Not relevant to the Floridian but the staff can close and lock the counter area of the new Venture cafes. That’s not possible in older cafe cars. I was on a Blue Water last week and the attendant said that was a big improvement.

Seems to be a trespasser event every other day along the Floridian route, as frequent as someone hit by a train in the NYC subway, though they run thousands of trains per day. This is not unique to this route. Yesterday, VIA Rail had multi-hour delays due to this near Kingston, ON.

These types of problems always increase during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays...

The view from my front porch. The Floridian #40 about 10 min after leaving Raleigh station. I recently joined Amtrak Unlimited to learn more about the trains I see everyday. If this GIF file isn't good form, let me know and I will take it down.
I would LOVe to have that view from my front porch. I have some friends who don't like the noise of being next to BNSF's line, but I would love it. I can hear the trains from my house, but can't see em.

I do enjoy it. We have lived here for over 30 years and have seen some interesting things. Like UP and BNSF loco's mixed in with the NS freight trains. Or a B&O observation car on the end of a freight train.

I have a Floridian trip in early February and am curious if anyone has information on boarding #40 in Richmond, VA. Is there any priority boarding for sleeping car passengers? Assuming an on time departure of 12:45 PM, will lunch be served to passengers boarding in Richmond? I am in car #4010 and #4110 on the return which I figure is the the VL I that follows the Diner. Any other nuggets of wisdom would be appreciated. Thank you.
