Pacific surfliner night bus

Has anyone travelled from LAX to SAN on pacific surfliner's 2:30 am bus? Does it feel relatively safe?

I would not worry about the bus, but might be concerned about before and after, to and from that bus.

I'd have no problem with it. I'm just not sure how you'd schedule it or what its purpose is.

By the time you arrive it's already dawn.

I live in San Diego, and I may be attending an event in LA at the Getty Center. The event is over at 9:00 pm or so, and it'll take around

an hour and a half to get back to Union Station via public transit. By that time, it looks like the 2:30 am bus is the only option to

get back to SD. Hopefully LA public transit will still be OK at 9:00 pm.

I live in San Diego, and I may be attending an event in LA at the Getty Center. The event is over at 9:00 pm or so, and it'll take around

an hour and a half to get back to Union Station via public transit. By that time, it looks like the 2:30 am bus is the only option to

get back to SD. Hopefully LA public transit will still be OK at 9:00 pm.

The only stipulation about the bus is that you need to have a rail component of the overall reservation; so if you go up to LA via the Surfliner you are fine reserving the early-morning bus.

I would have no qualms whatsoever about taking it. Union Station is patrolled and safe and the waiting area will be largely deserted except for cleaners and store restockers. The bus will probably arrive into San Diego early unless there is some sort of traffic tie-up on the I-5.

As for getting back to LAUS from the Getty at 9 p.m., I guess you'll be catching the 761 at the Getty south to the 720 at Wilshire/Westwood to the Purple Line at Western/Wilshire or Vermont/Wilshire. Doubtful that you could get back in time for the 10:10 Surfliner unless it is running late from Santa Barbara.

One possibility to type into the Metro Trip Planner would be the 761 north to the Orange Line Busway in the San Fernando Valley to the Red Line terminus at North Hollywood and then straight to Union Station. You might be able to make the 10:10 using this alternative if perhaps you left the Getty a bit earlier than 9. Still, I guess I'd plan on the overnight bus.

Don't worry about riding LA Metro buses/subways at night. There are plenty of working people and even bus-preference riders around--the 720 could even be standing-room only. It's not a system for the poor and disheveled at night.

Yes, I'll be riding the Surfliner up during the day. Will I be able to get the Amtrak bus ticket printed out along with my train ticket at a Quik-Trak kiosk?

Yes both should print out fine. If not, just go to the ticket window at the San Diego station.
