Well, the 'proof' may or may not be there but from what I've read right here on this sight is that the Government did in fact pay for certain upgrades along the DWs route. The train is not there and UP still uses the route and most likey did not pay a nickle back for the upgrades. Either way, right or wrong, in my opinion you cannot love Amtrak without hating UP, in my previous post I forgot to mention Texas Eagle in my list of constantly late trains handled by UP. How does BNSF keep 3/4 acceptabley close to schedule? or CP Rail/BNSF keep 7/8 moving right along, heck CP Rail handles 14 daily Hiawatha's plus 7/8 on that Milw-Chicago stretch.Well, it will only get worse before it gets better. Also Mark is there any eveidence that UP stole the Federal $$$$ for the Desert Wind Upgrade?
My point is that UP cannot manage itself, let alone all of the Amtrak trains it has to handle daily. I simply would not be surprised if either officially or unofficially UP dispatchers are told to hold Amtrak trains in favor of their freights.
