Hello everyone,

I'm planning a trip and I'm curious about Amtrak senior discount options. I've heard they offer discounts for seniors, but I'm not sure how it works. Can anyone share their experience or provide some details on how to take advantage of these discounts?

Any tips on booking and maximizing the savings would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

As far as I am aware, the only discount that is offered is 10% of the coach fare element of the booking (so if the total fare of a sleeper booking was $1500 and was comprised of $250 coach element and $1250 sleeper add on, the senior discount would amount to $25 giving an overall cost of $1475).

Looking at the link in the original post, many of the images purportedly showing Amtrak are nothing near what I see when I have travelled in Amtrak sleeping accommodations !!

As greatwestern said, it only applies to the coach/rail fare. If you're booking a sleeper, the cost is split between the rail/coach price and the roomette price.
If you're booking for 2 in a room, you'll be charged 2 rail fares and one accommodation fare. If booking for one person, 1 rail rare and the accommodation fare.

10% off on the rail fare only. Does not apply to sleeper accommodation charges or business class surcharges.

Use the "Traveller" drop down on the first page of the reservations dialog and select "Senior" to get it.

Always use Amtrak.com for booking and basic research.

Wow. That amtrakroutes page is pure fantasy. Just clickbait. As mentioned above, go to Amtrak.com for real info. As mentioned above, there is a small discount for seniors in coach and for the per-person part of the sleeper fares.
Whenever you “google” a search for information, you have to carefully filter the true websites from the “clickbait” ones…😉

But only slightly more seriously, the text between the pictures *almost* resembles reality, with an odd mix of truth and fuzziness. I have a feeling someone used an AI to create the pictures, toss in some AI grabbed Amtrak-related text, picked up a decent URL and voila, instant webpage. My desktop Chrome has a zillion pop-up and ad-blockers, but when I looked on my phone, I got some ads for some sort of weird software. Amazing what people will do to get clicks.

I'm not touching their comment box with a 10' ethernet cord...
