Taxi stand at Reno station

Just curious....I have read you have to call a cab in Reno. Be nice if there was some waiting on the CZ when it arrives. I understand it's not a long walk to the downtown hotels but with more luggage than I like to try and walk with a Taxi would be a better solution.

It's only like two blocks if my memory holds to get to the casino hotels.

You might call the hotel and see if they have complimentary transportation.

I have only detrained once at Reno, heading east. As I recall, I asked a CSA to call a cab for me, as none were present.

You're asking in the right place-I'm a Reno cab driver on the weekends. You don't have to call one-it's legal to hail off the street here-but except around the casinos, the only way to realistically get one is by calling. There's usually a 2-4 of them meeting both trains, even if they're late, though sometimes there's not enough for everyone. If there aren't any the Harrah's cab stand is half a block south on Center Street, and there's usually at least two waiting there. Which hotel are you staying in?

Edit: There's not an actual stand per se at the station, cabs have to loiter on Commercial Row outside the station, which limits the amount that can sit there for any length of time.

We are thinking of Circus Circus due to the early check in they offer. If the train is on time waiting till 4 pm to check in don't sound good after three days on the train.

If there's not one, call either 322-2222 for Whittlesea Checker (the place I drive for), 333-3333 for Reno-Sparks, or 355-5555 for Yellow. They will all charge the same amount.

Fare to Circus Circus from Amtrak shouldn't be more than $5, if that. I've heard rumors that the rates were approved for increase lately but none of the companies want to be first to implement them.

Last time I was in Reno was before the trench (I hope I am remembering Reno) and there was a couple of Casino's back doors across the street from the train. Has that changed or is the memory cloudy.

Yes, the Trench is in Reno, and I do believe there were. But now the Trench and the new station are a couple blocks north IIRC of the temp station.

At this time the only casino that's right on the tracks by the station is Harrah's, which is right across Commercial Row. Fitzgerald's is shuttered and being turned into something else, the Golden Phoenix (nee Flamingo) closed (the hotel building was completely remodeled and turned into condos), and the rest aren't by the station, which I think got moved a block or two east after the trench was finished. The station's back door goes under a parking garage for the bowling stadium, and isn't used much. Circus Circus is about 5-6 blocks away.
