I know many (me included) have listed their Amtrak trips in their signature but I wanted to see a general collective idea as to which trains AU has ridden on (past/present). Also, which trains have you not ridden but would like to one day. There was a poll for discontinued trains but it only allowed you to choose one while mine allows you to choose multiple.

Feel free to comment as well.

My list:

Been On: See Signature

Would Like To: Texas Eagle, Crescent, Maybe Silver Star to get a roomette without paying for the food

Been on all current LDs end point to end point.

Was able to ride the Three Rivers PHL-CHI prior to it being cxld.

Been on:

California Zephyr. The first ride was OSC - GJC - OSC. Second and 3rd OTM - SAC - OTM.

Coast Starlight - just once, SAC - EUG - SAC.

In May I will ride the Southwest Chief, the Sunset Limited, and the Texas Eagle in a big loop.

GBB - LAX - CHI and then a state train back to GBB.

Been on: all current LD routes, with the exception of the Auto Train and the Palmetto. Also been on the now defunct Sunset East between New Orleans and Orlando,

Near future: Palmetto on April 20

A small problem with the poll. I have not been on any discontinued trains but the site would not accept a blank answer. You should have a "None" option. I got around it by selecting "other".

For me you can see my signature.

For future trips Cascades north of SEA (very likely). Empire Builder Portland Section (highly likely). Coast Starlight (highly probable). California Zephyr (probable).

I have taken the Coast Starlight numerous times, with varying segments, with the longest being the #11 from PDX to LAX. I have yet to travel the full length. The segments that I rode the most often is KFS-PDX eleven times.

I have taken the Empire Builder once, riding it end to end from Portland and Chicago. I have yet to ride its Seattle branch.

I have taken the Southwest Chief once, riding the full length from Chicago. This is the only long distance train in which I rode in its entirity.

I plan on riding more long-distance trains in the forseeable future, whenever my budget permits me to do so. The ones that I am considering are the Coast Starlight KFS-PDX RT next month, and KFS-SAC RT in May. I might make a longer trip on the CS later in the year.

I had the same thing occur and I used the same workaround. The Auto Train, Silver Star and the Palmetto remain as the only LD trains I have not ridden. I hope to some day though the Auto Train is a bit impractical for me.

Under Discontinued Trains, I can't believe the Rio Grande Zephyr wasn't a choice. It did survive well into the Amtrak era. Many of us, myself included, would have likely checked that box.

Basically only the Coast Starlight, and even then ever trip has been under 115 miles except once.

I did reserve a trip on the California Zephyr to Reno once with the family, but we cancelled after we all got sick. At least I could use the eVoucher, but had to eat my nonrefundable return trip on Greyhound.

Personally, I'm not vain enough to think anybody really cares about which trains I've been on.

For me, it's all of the currently operating trains (including both sections of Empire Builder and Lake Shore Limited, my only ride on the Sunset was on the Texas Eagle through cars), plus the Three Rivers, Broadway Limited, and Desert Wind.

Cheers,

Nick

Only route I have been on so far is Coast Starlight (many times LA -San Jose, once from Seattle to LA).

But later this year I will be able to include EB (Portland to Chi) and SWC (Chi to LA).
