I've been told by several people that I'm Nuts to take the train in Feb! I've heard that it's really dangerous & avalanches are common.

Is this true or just someone talking out of their #$@! ???

I would take the opinions of Floridians about winter travel about as seriously as I would the opinions of North Dakotans about travel during hurricane season.

Well said. The trip is a GO!!!

Thanx

Hi,

To be fair, there is more chance of weather related disruption in winter. There have been landslips which cancelled the Empire builder, and the Coast starlight in recent years. I wouldn't let it put me off though..

I do most of my Amtrak trips in the winter months, and I have not been affected myself.

Just trying to decide if I want to go back to India this winter, or head to Amtrak land for the low buckets!

Cheers,

Eddie

You might also remind them that trains travel through weather that keeps airplanes on the ground.

Thanx,

I'm glad I asked because it did get my attention! I have no problems with disruptions, I'm one of those who looks at that as more time on a train!

Depends on the route. The only train out of SPK (where I live) is the EB. I have had to cancel winter trips to CHI and Florida because of weather adversely effecting the trains. On the other hand, winter sleeper fares have to be more moderate than the insane rates during peak summer times.

I'll be on the CZ,CS,EB,CL & SM!!!

Last year I did the KWD-CBS Loophole in February hoping for some KFC, only problem was we got into CHI so late that I missed my guaranteed connection to STL so I had to spend the night in CHI on Amtraks dime.

This year I will take the CZ, CS , EB and return to STL again in February - still hoping for KFC.

Any train time is good,

Well, rail travel is safer than driving (in winter or summer) and it's not as if people stop driving during the winter.
