    My first long train trip...

    1. There is overhead storage. If it is a regular sized suitcase, it should fit up there no problem. If not, there is a storage rack on the lower level, right by the door where you board. 2. Sure, bring any food / non-alcoholic drinks that you would like. 3. There should be a few smoke stops...

    Hotel By Amtrak Station

We stayed at the Four Points about 1block from the station, it was a nice place

    Luggage size question

No, they don't measure them. Basically, if you can get it on the train yourself, and find a place to put it, you are good to go. The only thing they do do is weigh it if you check it.

    (Long) Day Trip

It had been about 9 months since my last train adventure, and I was getting the urge to take another trip. I didn't have time (or money) for a vacation-type trip, so I looked into scheduling a day trip. Being in Cleveland, my options are kind of limited on same day out-and-backs. I could spend...

    Baggage at WAS

    Just an FYI: small camera bags/purses were $2 /hr duffel/gym bags $4 /hr suitcases $6 /hr Tops out at 5 hrs, so 1 suitcase would cost $30/day

    Cleveland to Albuquerque

Between Cleveland and Chicago WB, it is a)dark and b)not very scenic. Me personally, I would do this portion as cheaply as possible. Then splurge and enjoy the SWC portion.

    Cleveland to Albuquerque

In my opinion, take the one that is cheaper. They both leave in the middle of the night, and they get to Chicago within an hour of each other, so either one would be fine to make the connection.

    Baggage at WAS

I am actually just getting on in CLE tonight, taking the Cap to DC, walking around for a few hours, and hopping back on the Cap to come home. I will just have a little bag with water and snacks in it. It will be no problem to carry around, I was just wondering if I would be able to leave it...

    Baggage at WAS

The Amtrak site says there are no lockers, but there is a baggage storage room. Is this correct, and is the storage only for sleeper pax or for anyone? I don't mind carrying my bag around for the day, but I don't want to get tackled by the Secret Service or anything.

double points promotion for spring . . .

I got the offer. I did not know until I opened my e-mail to get the confirmation for the ticket I just bought. :D It has been about 9 months, so I had booked a day trip. I registered for the promotion, so hopefully I get the double points.

    Questions From a Newbie

I think if you are in a sleeper, they don't mind. I don't think they will let you if you are in coach. We both ordered the grilled cheese one day for lunch. After having meals for two days, we were just full and didn't want much.

Amtrak train slams into tow truck in Kent, WA

I have to drive over a set of tracks on the way to/from work everyday. I always see people stopped on the tracks. I am actually surprised when I don't see someone on the tracks. It's hard to believe that people are this oblivious. One of those life lessons, you don't mess around with trains, period.

    Luggage

We did almost that exact trip back in May. You will love it! You can read about it in the trip report section, probably on the second page now. Anyway, we had one suitcase and 3 gym-bag sized bags. We were actually able to stuff everything under the seats in the roomette on the way out, but we...

    Seating LSL

We took the LSL about 3 or 4 weeks ago from Cleveland to Chicago (and back eventually). On the way out, we just found available seats. There were plenty. On the way from Chicago to Cleveland, they just kind of group you according to your stop, but again, nothing assigned or anything.
