    use of metropolitan lounge

Hey, I don't suppose that if we ride first class TO chicago that we'd get to use the Met. lounge the next day before going coach to Omaha?? Just thought I'd ask.

Hi Frank, Thanks for the inspiration; now I'm looking forward even more so to the trip. I guess we'll have the best of both worlds since we're coming back on the EB. I do love that train! :) Did you make the Canadian trip all across by any chance? We're going from Toronto to Vancouver, but...

Which Amtrak Route That You Want Discontinued

looks like the Heartland Flyer wins! I also want more routes, not fewer. But if one route HAD to go (perhaps to add one we really want like the Floridian), I'd pick the Heartland. I think we need the International. The Chicago-Toronto link is rather important. Just my two cents.

help with old train network map

Hi guys, I didn't have any response from the trainweb site so will try here. For an article I'm doing, can any of you point me to a website/map that would show what our passenger train network looked like in, say, the 1930's or 40's? Imagine, Omaha Nebraska used to have dozens of trains go...

Hi Steve, You mention that it might be dark going through Glacier Eastbound, but according to the schedule, it should be 8-9 in the morning. Did you mean "westbound"? I'll be traveling in July; I assume (but am not sure) that dawn is around 5:30am/6am? Anyone know? Thanks. Why doesn't Amtrak...

Discontinued Amtrak Route You Want Revived.

not knowing as much about Amtrak as you guys, I was wondering if the Floridian has any real chance of being brought back into use? I would think from a financial point of view that it's a train that would be used! Scott

    empire builder room

Hi PRR60 and Frank, Excellent suggestions. I'm very much looking forward to this trip! I will book my breakfast/lunch in the dining car for when we go through the mountains. It will be interesting comparing the Canadian to The Empire Builder. Scott

    empire builder room

Thanks guys, as always. I've got quite a few trips lined up over the next two years. I have been writing to senators, etc. to express my support for Amtrak. Tubaallen, what will you likely be doing on the EB? I'll be departing Seattle on July 8th. Hope to see ya.

    empire builder room

Hi guys, I've book a res for the standard sleeper on the EB for July, SEA-CHI. Last year I traveled CHI-SEA. Great ride, great train. I asked for room #11 since I prefer downstairs. My question is this: Is #11 preferable to #12 in terms of scenery? Now I know the coaches can be switched...

    California may break Amtrak pact

I don't know the situation very well, but can someone tell me if this means the Coast Starlight would stop running...or simply not be run by Amtrak anymore? Thanks, Scott

    lake shore or 3 rivers

Thanks for the info guys. As always, Alan, very thorough! :) I think I'll opt for LSL. Scott

    lake shore or 3 rivers

Hi guys, i'll have a chance this summer to ride either LS or 3 R from ny to chi. I've noted the times and that's not a consideration. Why one is just a nicer train? Scenery? Thanks

    The right idea

I'm looking forward to a trip on the Canadian this summer. One thought: Canada wisely may invest in its infrastructure because the government isn't funding endless wars.

    so if LDR are cut...

Those of you who would know... If the W administration insists on LDR cuts...and Gunn goes along, which ones would be cut...saying three had to go? By summer or is there a six-month warning? Scott

Amtrak long distance funding in peril!

perhaps because Bush is an idiot?? Just to keep the subject on trains: can't Gunn say to the W Admin: all or nothing? Scott

    question about pacific parlour car

I had to smile at the guest's posting. I, too, last summer had the unfortunate circumstance that the PPC had been removed from the consist. They did replace it with an observation car, but had all the breakfast goodies out for an hour or more. I'd already eaten, but ate some more :)

    question about pacific parlour car

Hi guys, I was reading on the trainweb site a couple complaints from riders who say the PPC wasn't running on the days they were traveling. I had the same bad luck last summer. Just out of curiosity, how often is the PPC left off the consist? Does Amtrak only own two or three? Are they...

Questions - Never been on a train before

Hi, The above posters said it all; I just wanted to assure you that it will be a great trip. I took my first Amtrak trip last summer; it was amazing. The other people on the train, not to mention the scenery (even dull scenery) make it interestng. It's a part of Americana that I hope survives...

    A New Single Level Fleet?

hi, I haven't been on a Viewliner yet, just the superliners, but one thing I wish Amtrak had are berths, as on The Canadian, so there is an option ffor those who don't wish to ride coach but can't afford standard rooms.
