    Sleeping on coach, long distance

Before resigning yourself to coach for the entire route, investigate the prices for transferring to a sleeper at, say, ABQ. And don't forget to check AmSnag to see if a day or two earlier or later would make a difference in the cost.

    Waterloo, IN Station Improvements

They've had a gravel overflow parking area east of Center Street for a while now, though it's currently disrupted due to the station move. I imagine that will be used as the primary parking area when the work is complete, with the trackside ramp becoming the overflow.

    Waterloo, IN Station Improvements

Moving day! http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/Waterloo-Train-Depot-moves-to-new-location Reportedly it might even be staffed, though I'm guessing by a town employee rather than by Amtrak.

Did I miss a thread about Amtrak returning Service to Florida?

Aside from those who seem to live in a fantasy world and prefer theoretical timetables to factual logistics, it probably doesn't help that the report is linked in the thread that the OP can't find (apparently the moderators can't find it either, as I fully expected this thread to be merged long...

    Chicago's new Metropolitan Lounge Information

If I'm reading the plans correctly, it appears the corridor between the restrooms would be the logical place to assemble departing passengers, either for a K-walk or to simply direct them down the appropriate concourse to the track, where they merge with (or get a head start on) passengers...

Trying to Improve Amtrak Schedules in Ohio

It's INDOT that needs to start thinking bigger. If they do, it seems likely that IP would work with them to implement whatever route they are willing to fund.

News on daily Sunset (incl older east of NOL discussion)

Orlando is an endpoint for both the SL (which is merely "suspended") and the Auto Train. Though I certainly wouldn't be opposed to NOL-MIA service.

    Waterloo, IN Station Improvements

Update: The town says they are still on schedule for a May opening, even though dirt has yet to be moved. Seems a bit optimistic, but we will see. http://wane.com/2016/01/06/waterloo-ready-to-start-construction-on-amtrak-project/

DB to withdraw all remaining sleeper trains

This is a consideration worth noting. Not all CNL trains are "pure" CNL; many of them have IC coaches as well that are shuffled along with the sleeper cars. Case in point with a random date of 16 January, traveling from Munich to Düsseldorf (8 hours with no change of trains), one can ticket...

Myanmar Railways Train # 3(Up): Yangon to Mandalay

Great report! Also enjoyed reading the article on your site about the circular train. I bought a ticket for the circular train and due to some confusion about how the platforms were marked (or maybe I should say not marked), boarded the wrong train which headed out of town on the Mandalay...

    Amtrak Express LD Trains?

If you were the President of Amtrak in 1995 you still wouldn't have had that choice (though perhaps you could have saved the Broadway and cut something else). The decision to keep the Cardinal was made by Sen. Byrd years earlier.

    Baltimore to Chicago?

"Can only get to Chicago" by any one of four routes with daytime hours at both endpoints. What about the places where people can't get to Chicago at all because there's no Amtrak service whatsoever (Columbus, Lexington, Nashville, South Dakota)? What about the places where the only Amtrak...

    My British Train Experience

I always call it St. Pancreas too, but in the interest of ecclesial (and anatomical) accuracy, it's officially St. Pancras. ;)

    Chicago to Miami

The bedroom from Toledo to Washington is no extra cost if you're redeeming a one-zone. Why pay for the entire Capitol route instead of just Chicago to Toledo?

    Shower access in coach L/D?

For that matter, US passengers would rebel over the $2 WC charge. At least that's still free on European trains.

Sept 26th 30 Capitol Limited Cancelled

It's not a "random list" of cities, it's the stations where the train has to stop for a crew change regardless of whether any pax get on or off. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,3287779

Sept 26th 30 Capitol Limited Cancelled

Actually it looks like the only stations bookable are TOL, PGH, CUM, and WAS. No connection to 42 at PGH, either. Nor do there appear to be any westbound sleeper-only consists. Odd.

Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International Airport

Wouldn't they just not open the doors on those cars, and send the pax forward a car or two to deboard on the platform? The PVs might have to be dropped at, or deboarded at, the present station.

TylerP42 tries to be like Auntie C

Nice report! I've done the day trip to CHI on the CL and LSL a few times, too, usually from WTI. Glad you had a good time. The "step outside at waterloo" idea is not recommended. Even if the conductor agrees to facilitate this (and don't try it without his consent; if you get left behind it...
