    LSL CHI-BOS scenery

If you are in the 4820 sleeper, I believe you should ask for an odd numbered roomette. IIRC, the H room has been forward, against the Boston baggage car. I usually have room B, and the sofa faces forward. After double checking this page, it looks like the odd side is to the right. As it seems...

    LSL Boston section

A boxed lunch does sound nice :) My bustituted trip was a 'last minute' change. Trackwork had been scheduled before my trip, but was supposed to end before I headed back home. The work took longer than anticipated, so on the bus we went. I believe amtrak called me to advise of the change...

    LSL Boston section

Jim, Smile145 summed up it well. A snack pack was handed out to all passengers. Amtrak does refund your sleeper fare, so, IMHO, you really are not owed a meal. A side note, when I had a bad-ordered BOS sleeper, lunch was provided from the cafe menu. Once in ALB, I had a room in one of the...

Also,if you do not care for either of the choices, you may choose anything from the cafe menu. Beverages and dessert is included, too! Mike

    Lunch?

Yes, you will be served lunch on the train after you board in Winter Haven. Unless the train is quite late into NYP, you will not be served lunch. You may arrive early into New York, as the stations from DC onward are discharge only, meaning the train will leave when ready, not by schedule...

    Is AGR tightening up?

AGR definately keeps notes when you call. Usually, it is to your advantage, as you may not have to explain your situation over and over. My itinerary for my trip last March changed five or six times before being finalized. The agents were all good sports about it, and understood the changes...

    Layover in Sacramento

I have no restaurant recommendations, but you may store your bags at the baggage counter for the day. IIRC $3 per bag.

Getting to Drury Inn New Orleans

Yes, you are correct about the Streetcar. The route begins and ends at the corner of Carondelet and Canal, so if you board at the Drury intending to travel out on St Charles, you may have to pay another fare. Obviously the day pass would take care of this problem. I believe you can purchase...

Getting to Drury Inn New Orleans

I have walked and used a cab, depending on which train I'm arriving or departing on, i.e., the time of day. After the LA Gathering, Bill H and I walked both ways, IIRC. You should do fine walking to the Drury. Enjoy your trip ! Mike

    Boston South Station

The Club Acela is open until 9:30, when #67 departs. I was in the CA tonight, after my early (!) arrival on the LSL. I stored my bags there until my T train departed at 9:30. The "gate" is opened at 9:15, so you'll be able to use the lounge 'til you depart. Mike

    Lake Shore Limited

For over 110 years, long distance and commuter trains have been stopping at Back Bay. I'd say it's a keeper ;)

    American Flyer High Speed Rail

Or, perhaps, the 1937 Osgood Bradley coaches built for the New Haven and many other Railroads. They were know as 'American Flyers' after AC Gilbert produced models of these cars:)

    Eastbound across Canada

Thanks for the trip report, Eric. Sounds like you're having a great journey (except the first night ;) ). Also, it was good to meet up with you in Ketchikan. I'm happy our itineraries allowed for a quick mini-Gathering. Enjoy the rest of your trip! Mike
