    Scanners

I use a Bearcat BC72XLT, available for $70-90 online. I'll share a tip: you don't have to either use a computer or even manually program each AAR frequency into the BC72XLT or most any other brand of mid-range current scanner!! You simply have it scan a range of frequencies that will include...

WI & OH Rail Projects Killed by US DOT

daxomni, I agree with your analysis. By the way, here's your $200-->$200. I thought Walker would cave. Instead, he has steadfastly played the fool. I can't remember the last time I have witnessed someone embracing such blatant ignorance and stupidity with a straight face. Is it...

WI & OH Rail Projects Killed by US DOT

Question: How can one person like Walker or Kasich make the decision to kill the HSR projects on their own? My understanding is that there were hundreds (or more) people involved in making the decisions to initiate and write the grant proposals in the first place at many levels of government...

    Wisconsin High Speed Rail Stopped

Hopefully, you will soon owe me $200! (I kid daxomni) Walker open to rail Improvements to the Builder? How about routing it through Madison?

    Wisconsin High Speed Rail Stopped

Ahh. . .but this assumes that there were no reasons to vote for Walker other than opposing the passenger train. It is indeed rare that one agrees with 100% of a candidate's positions, and I suspect there are many who supported Walker but who were not necessarily voting against the train...

    Wisconsin High Speed Rail Stopped

Leverage is not a factor unless I choose to reveal how I voted; you know I didn't vote for him, but the Governor-Elect does not. To him, I am simply a citizen of Wisconsin expressing what I'd like him to do. Presumably (unless he is totally disingenuous, which he might be), as governor Walker...

    Wisconsin High Speed Rail Stopped

Oh, I won't forget, you can be sure of that. I didn't vote for him on November 2 and I won't vote for him in 4 years, either.

    Wisconsin High Speed Rail Stopped

I just called too, spoke to Madeline. I asked that Governor-elect Walker RECONSIDER his position (this lets him seem reasonable) on the train. I stated that I would use the train to commute to Madison (where I work) from Oconomowoc or Watertown and that I-94 was too congested to drive and I...

    Wisconsin High Speed Rail Stopped

The latest update is good! Scott Walker may change his mind! ^_^ JS Online "Right now I see no scenario where the taxpayers of Wisconsin aren't going to be on the hook for millions of dollars," Walker said. "And to me unless there was an ironclad agreement that showed me otherwise, I'm not...

    Wisconsin High Speed Rail Stopped

Thanks for the links, saxman. I used all of them. I edited the basic letter from Stand Up For Trains, tailoring it more to Wisconsin and my local yokels. On another note, the weird thing about Wisconsin Governor-elect Scott Walker is that he's not against taking the federal money--he just...

    Columbus Wisconsin Amtrak station

I've used it a number of times. The waiting area is "OK" and is safe and clean. The station manager is a really nice guy and obviously loves trains. If he's not busy with other customers you can chat him up. As far as a shuttle or other transportation to Sun Prairie or Madison, there isn't...

    T-Shirts

If you take the Empire Builder into or out of Portland, OR, check out the gift shop in the Portland station for a good selection of train t-shirts, including Amtrak shirts. I bought one that shows the Empire Builder circa 1950s, and another that shows 2 Amtrak locomotives (I don't know the...

    Lower Calorie Selections-Empire Builder

I just took the Empire Builder from Portland to Milwaukee last week. I was watching calories too (at least a little!) and I can tell you the lunch salad was large and very satisfying. I used the Light Italian dressing, only 80 calories for the entire packet and it was good. You can order the...

    Policy change for loophole trips?

Seems I've got dust in my eyes too. I can't find any mention of you-know-what via that thread.

    Policy change for loophole trips?

From the AGR website, under the "Redeem" tab: "Rewards are determined by the number of zones you travel across." Oh well, maybe they'll be more generous with ways to earn points or increase the number of double, triple, etc. promotions. :)
