    The Star-Spangled Sightseer Lounge Car

I just got off the Empire Builder yesterday and we had the same Sightseer Lounge from the last picture (33049) on our train. We left Seattle on Wednesday the 7th and detrained at Winona, MN.

    Empire Builder Timekeeping

I'll be heading to the Portland and Seattle next week via the Empire Builder. Watching the Amtrak Status Maps and Amtrak Delays websites, I've noticed a recent decline in on-time performance. The delays usually start westbound near Milwaukee - is there trackwork in that area or another reason...

Come & Ride with me on the Empire Builder!!

I'll be on June 29 westbound and July 9 eastbound - sorry I'll miss you.

Bag Storage at Seattle's King Street Station

Oh, how I wish my work schedule allowed enough travel time to attain anything but basic status in loyalty programs. Good to know in case that day ever comes, though.

    RFP's for Electric's and Cars

I was under the impression that jet fuel was essentially kerosene, not diesel. Of course, if kerosene and diesel are more similar than I realize, you'll know I'm not a petroleum engineer. :)

    Amtrak train derails

I was amused by the reporter who talked twice about the need to repair "railroad tiles." The video also showed a couple of freight engines and claimed they'd been the power for the train. As a kid, clueless reporters bugged me. Now I find their ignorance funny more often than not. Glad to...

    Six Day Three Train Trip

Great photos - can't wait for the report!

Bag Storage at Seattle's King Street Station

Same thing for us. We will be staying at the Sheraton at the corner of 6th and Pike - quite a way from the station.

Bag Storage at Seattle's King Street Station

Excellent. Good information to know. Thanks to you both. We will be traveling in sleeper. We've ridden several tourist lines, but my fiance hasn't traveled long distance by train before. That being said, she has started telling people that if she likes it, we'll be going by train...

Bag Storage at Seattle's King Street Station

Hey everyone, The soon-to-be Mrs. and I will be taking Amtrak on the honeymoon. On our last day in Seattle, we need to be out of the hotel by noon and the Empire Builder doesn't head east until 4:40. I would imagine submitting my checked baggage early won't be a problem, but am hoping we...

    Attire in the Dining Car...

I agree - pajamas are not appropriate for the dining car or schools. As for footwear, closed toes for moving between cars, please. :)

    Repaired Superliners

Good to hear this report. I read about changes on this board months ago and kept wondering if my late June-early July trip on the EB would be with new arrangement or what I've become accustomed. That being said, additional dining capacity on the EB is probably needed.

    Portland (PDX) questions

The train station in Portland is on the edge of the Pearl District - an area that has been gentrified in the last several years. There are many good restaurants within walking distance. One of my favorite restaurants is BridgePort Brewery and Bakery - great food and handcrafted beers. Henry's...

    Repaired Superliners

The other thing to keep in mind here is that taking that coach to the west coast vs. dropping it at St. Paul would require five cars whereas the current drop coach (Trains 807 and 808) requires two cars. There might not be three extra Superliner coaches to make that happen.

    Amtrak Express

I rode along and helped drive as my brother helped a (now former) girlfriend move from Minneapolis to Albuquerque for grad school using Amtrak Express. This was back in the Mail and Express days of the mid-late 90s so it may not be relevant for today. They dropped off several boxes of books and...

Duplex Roomettes may provide more room?

My North Dakota-born mother talks about not having running water in the "old house" and baths being conducted in a galvanized steel washtub in the kitchen. The kettle on the stove provided occasional warm ups to the water. I've lived in Minnesota - with running water - all my life.

    Hudson Bay Train

I don't know about a blog on this train, but I rode it back in 1997. This was early spring - Train was 2 F40s, baggage, 2 coaches, diner, Chateau-series sleeper. I was in one of the duplex roomettes. - my only ride in that accommodation. Quite an interesting ride, they even tacked on a couple...

Taking the EB east...My first Amtrak ride

According to Trains.com, the Seattle section of the Empire Builder is turning at Everett and a bus-bridge to/from Seattle is being provided. Seems to make sense with the mudslide so close to the end of the run.

    Should I expect dinner?

I clicked the link and that is the place I would go to sing karaoke with some friends while in graduate school at St. Mary's University in Winona. It was called The Black Horse then. :)
