Vancouver, BC to Seattle- Business Class

I'm making a plan to take a trip from Vancouver, BC to Seattle on Cascades on Sunday morning in October. Is it worthwhile to take business class or just taking coach class?

    Talgo Trainsets to California

Or maybe to Seattle for start-up maintenance, where the Talgo experts are.

In Memory of Eric Minton - "GG-1"

Sad to hear that but he did left his legacy to us. Mahalo to Eric for his valuable contribution for us train foamers, all type!

    Cascade Tunnel Photos

That's exactly 1,708.1 miles from Chicago, if you follow the steel rail. BTW, fantastic shots!

Commuter Rail from Las Cruces to El Paso

It's the geographical location. It has really steep mountains starting just north of El Paso, all the way north, somewhere south of Santa Fe. It's the Great Rift Valley where Rio Grande flows. So building track through Las Cruces is nearly impossible.

Metrolink Using BNSF Locos For Cab Cars

That is a long way to go to CA 60 corridor (Pomona Freeway) to catch Metrolink Riverside train. Could it be a San Bernardino train?

There is one in Portland, OR station, but it's not really an Amtrak store, just train store selling souvenir.

    ABQ Question?

I used to live in NM for 15 years. Sadly, I never had a chance to ride on tram. I drove on the east side of the mountains. It was a very scenic since the tops of the mountain areas are "sky islands" in the desert. Riding to the tram area from downtown ABQ is almost nil with bus. You either...

    Stations

You can take light train from the front of Portland station to the airport. I'm not sure if it is required a transfer or not to other light rail.

Airplanes, trains, goats, France, oh my!

The reason why they ask if they did on farms is to prevent spread of disease, esp. with Mad Cow Disease, or BSE.

    Comparing airport transit connections worldwide

LAX is a joke with an exception of FlyAway bus to LAX (Los Angeles Union Station). If you really want to take a light rail to downtown you'll have to take shuttle bus from terminal to Green light rail station. Climb up the stairs and catch the light real. Get off, go downstairs and catch...

How's the winter snow scenery where YOU are traveling?

I drove over Donner Pass few days before Christmas. It was snowing and the CA DOT & CUP were doing road block to make sure that the vehicles are using 4 wheel drive or snow chains. Last week, my brother went through Donner Pass and there were no snow. So that is really bad situation, I...

Valuable way to check fares if you're flexible with dates is Amsnag which it was created by one of our AU members. http://biketrain.net/amsnag/amSnag.php

    Favorite dining-car meal companions

Amish couple. I tried to talk with them but they're too quiet. Interesting moment was he eating steak with his hand, not steak knife! A lady from Arizona- we talked for hours, esp. she rode passenger train to Sun Valley, Idaho. That track was converted to trail years ago. A couple from...

    PHOTO: New Mexico Semaphores

Excellent photo! I agree that the track looks pretty decent, but the semaphores are the problem- they're already way past outdated and very expensive to replaced!

    Safer station in S California

Both stations are also serve Metrolink commuter trains. I think San Bernardino is much safer than Riverside because of security guard and overnight parking for Metrolink trains. I'm not sure about taxis and car rentals at both station.

    San Jose and Burbank airports

Other option is to fly into LAX airport and then board on FlyAway bus which will take you between airport and Union station, non-stop. It's a very comfortable ride, about 15 to 20 minutes. From there, you can board on Pacific Surfliner.

Opportunities Lost for Sales in the Cafe/Lounge Cars?

The attendants are probably eating their meals in dining car. That's why they're taking break, plus they are working extremely long hours.
