Let me get my suit of armor on~ I'm an RC man with an occassional MOon Pie to go with it if I don't mix it with anything.

    Applied to Amtrak

Not so...the agent in Hammond, LA stays busy tring to get pax res far into the future. People come from miles around just to purchase tix from him. NOL pax even drive to Hammond (about an hour away) because of his good, efficient and reiable service. The job is what you make of it. His two...

    Air conditioning on the Crescent?

I've had a suana in the bedroom end of the Viewliners and was able to hang meat in the roomette end. The coaches seem to be controlled by the SA and usally are OK. If you want to really cool off head to the diner or lounge car.

Private intercity railway starts out in New York

Mr. Dave; We live in a town (Centerville)(ha!) with four houses. I am the Mayor, Water Commissioner, (No I don't smoke cigars like Ernie Kovaks in the "Great Gildersleve") Garbage Superintendent and resident listener to my loyal citizens. BTW, I own two of the four houses...Jim Hudson is very...

    New Employee Benefits

You get 5 weeks vacation after 25 years~ let your fellow employees answer all the questions because HR takes a dim view of a twenty questions prospective employee.

Private intercity railway starts out in New York

This is very coincidentally the start of a seven week run at the horse track Saratoga Springs. Those Westhamptoners that get tired of the fun, sun and suds head upstate for a breather(although it looks hotter up north than New Orleans!). I can't see anybody riding, with snow shoes, in the middle...

    Need Information - Miami Station

Betty; If you've ever gotten off in Alpine, Schriever or Sanderson you're pretty much on your own; Miami is not much better considering the size of the city east of the station.. I went to Miami to visit a friend in Key Biscayne when the Sunset ran all the way (about 15 years ago.) After the...

    Train Stations

No big deal...last time I went through(last month)on #1, Bob Morgan, the conductor, called for a smoke break. I got off and spotted four or five police cars parked together and assumed the law was still around the depot. Still doesn't add any points to New Iberia. And the last time I got off #2...

    Train Stations

I would definitely pick Lafayette as it has a well maintained station and is across the way from the police station. It was re-built as an intermodal facility with federal dollars. new Iberia is also in the middle of a dingy town prone to outbursts of violence. The station itself is just an old...

What Is Going On With AMTRAK???

Unfortunately, many Class 1's (which includes Amtrak) preach "Safety First" but fund it last. As far as OBS crews go most of them have the attitude "Every man for himself." I think you'll find the conductors and A/C's more professional and better trained to handle situations like this one.

What Is Going On With AMTRAK???

Did you acquire this obvious hatred of unions or have you been day dreaming ??? Point in case; Metra had to cancel some trains a while back. The reason? There were only 5 men on the extra board qualified to run Metra. Five were used on Sunday preceeding the Metra cancellations due to detours...

    #14 pulled by switchers?

Looks like a well preserved Alco heading to the shops....definitely not a EMD SW-12.

    City Of New Orleans

OK...here's the scoop...the regular revenue sleeping car has been riding the rear end for the last month. It seems that switching ops in SAS have changed up and the last two cars on #21 go to #1. Not sure if the switch crew has been cut off in SAS but sounds like an economy move to me.

    City Of New Orleans

Well gang it appears my Amtrak garu took a personal day off. He is enjoying refreshments somewhere around Lake Pontchatrain. I will call him first thing in the morning and settle this once and for all. :help:

Shoes on seat - Yay or nay?

Just ask yourself, "Would I go to someone's home and put my feet on the couch my hosts were sitting on?" Pretty basic manners that even Barbie would probably know.

    Sunset Limited versus Texas Eagle

BINGO !!! It's the same train with different car numbers. The Texas Eagle actually terminates/originates at San Antonio and adds/takes cars to/from the Sunset Ltd. on days that the Sunset runs (three days a week in either direction). #421 cars are added to the rear of #1;#422 cars are switched...

    City Of New Orleans

Whooooo....hold the phone a minute. I've seen the sleeper tacked on the hind end when the #22/422 sleeper goes B/O or is due inspection. It saves a lot of cable disconnects, time, etc. I'm going to get an opinion from the horse's mouth in about an hour. I shall return, refreshments or otherwise...
