Ethan Allen (291) vs Empire Service (283)

Traveling coach from NYP to ALB ... is there a real difference between these two trains. Would one be better than the other? Please keep in mind, this is only a 2:30+ trip and will be traveling coach, connecting from the Silver Meteor so any trains that leave before noon would not work

No difference in equipment or service. No. 283 is likely to be more crowded overall and typically jumps to higher fare buckets sooner.

If I am able to take this trip, it would be with a USA Rail Pass ... not sure what impact that has with fare buckets

My understanding is the pass is good only when there is inventory in lower buckets.

Cafe car is manned on 283 since it continues West and on EA since it goes past Albany as well. The Empire Service trains that only do NYP-ALB are not. So, in this case no difference.
