I was checking the schedules of the new Floridian for a possible trip and was surprised to see the reduced dwell time in Washington. I think we had all wondered if the current schedule had enough time there to compensate for a late arriving Capitol. It's arrival time hasn't changed at 1:05pm. Apparently Amtrak has more confidence in CSX performance than many of us, Although, as you can see, the total trip time did increase by one hour.

They appear to have added one hour of padding en route south of WAS.

I think the issue is having a train tying up lower-level space at WAS for so long, given that you’d have a bunch of Amtrak trains to/from VA, plus a (hypothetically on-time) north/westbound Floridian, plus the VRE service all needing that space.

Also, they frequently load Washington-originating Northeast Regionals in the lower level as well, even when there seem to be lots of empty tracks in the upper level.
