Lunch was delivered to our room by SCA Andre at about 12:30PM. The hubby tried the pan-Asian meatballs, which were vegetarian, but he couldn't taste the difference from ground beef (a good thing for him). I had the chicken fettuccine Alfredo, but wasn't hungry enough to finish it. We will take the butter cake desserts to the hotel for a snack tonight.
Getting very close to Dallas. Arrival time in Fort Worth is now predicted for 2:17PM, an hour late. We have plenty of snacks plus the butter cakes, and lunch was a much larger meal than we are used to, so we may skip dinner out. I will probably still pick up those cheap throw blankets after we check in at the hotel, though. They'll be useful on the train back tomorrow!

The hubby and I will be getting off the Texas Eagle at Fort Worth, TX and returning northbound the next day. I was happy to see that there's a free "Molly the Trolley" service in downtown Fort Worth, apparently subsidized by the downtown hotels. Any suggestions/recommendations for restaurants very near "Molly the Trolley"'s route? Google Maps shows a Subway just N of the Amtrak station, which would do in a pinch, but places which aren't everywhere would be better. We're probably looking for a place to eat supper the day of arrival and lunch the next day before departure. (And inexpensive is good, too!)
Can recommend lunch at Jakes Burgers - on West 5th and Main. If you're looking for coffee, try Sons Coffee by the Water Park, around Lancaster and Throckmorton and should be a quick Molly ride.

Do you have dinner plans?

We just vegged in the hotel room. We were full enough from lunch on the train that the butter cake and coffee, followed by cracker sandwiches and overpriced hotel sodas, were enough to satisfy us until breakfast this morning.

Only two cars, one sleeper and one coach, from the Eagle are switched onto to Sunset. They're added to the rear of Sunset.
It works both ways. Three days a week two cars are removed from the Eagle and added to the Sunset in San Antonio. But also three days a week, two cars are removed from the Sunset and added to the Eagle. And not necessarily the same three days. I could assume that they are always removed from the rear of one train and added to the rear of the other train. But you know what happens when you Ass U Me, so I was just trying to be sure.

It's time (this evening 10/30) to board the Eagle in Austin for our multi-city adventure, the first since March. This train, photo below, won't be there of course. It's the UP executive train, here ten days ago for for Texas-Georgia game, and some of the big wigs might have also gone to the Formula One race the same weekend.

Okay, 21 now moving toward Austin station. Sure would like to know what delayed it. BTW, six cars tonight.

"Late Trains often become Later!"

This is a regular occurrence in Austin due to Freight Inteference by UP between St Louis and Austin, which causes #21/#421 to become Late.

Since the UP Route is Single Tracked between Sneed and South Austin, including the Trestle across Lady Bird Lake, Ultra Long UP Freights and Rock Trains often delay the Eaglete from reaching the Station in Austin.

Since there is lots of padding in the Schedule, the Eaglete often makes up time between Austin and San Antonio, and Arrives Early into SAS!

What is UP?

To me, the most irritating frequent situation with the Eagle, is it can be pretty much on time in Temple, but before the dispatcher authorizes the train to head south at Temple, the TE sits and waits and waits...
