If their inventory was zero, then just another example of skimping on spare parts by management. Wheels are always needed. NOL probably sees ~ 120 - 150 inbound wheels in a day on cars and locos.New Orleans does have a shop but I am not sure how well they are equipped to deal with wheel problems in a 12 hour window. I am sure that they have a jack to lift one end of a car to replace an axle/wheel, but am not sure what their spare serviceable wheel/axle inventory is or was on that given day.
